Mont de Milieu Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2020

My first time here in Chablis! I chose to have with dinner (Wine Not, a fantastic wine bar & restaurant in Chablis) a bottle from a winemaker who doesn’t need a great deal of introduction nowadays. Samuel Billaud has fast become one of the region’s most exciting winemakers, so I was eager to try something of his. This was on the list for the veritable bargain of €65. Mont de Milieu is a premier cru from the right bank of the Sereine, a vineyard which shares a very similar aspect, and soils, to Les Clos. The 2020 here is a wine of immense presence, structure, classicism, with a slight hedonistic character. The flavours lean toward the fuller side of the spectrum, with flavours of marzipan, orange peel and fresh cut marmalade, with a hint of honey. But there is terrific zip on entry, incredible minerality; any weight to this wine is lean, muscular and structured, possessing deft acidity, a lovely herbaceous quality (think tomato vine) and a finish to die for. I’ve immediately bought four bottles of this back home and can’t wait to enjoy it again. — 19 days ago

Montanita de Oro Pinot Noir 2022

This is very impressive stuff- it has more wild raspberry notes and almost black fruit notes on this one and some garigue/herbal tones. The aromas are just erupting from the glass as soon as its poured. There's a raw and wild essence to it while retaining the sophistication of Sam's other Pinots. — 5 months ago

Montmains Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2018

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2022 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru has a fresh and vibrant bouquet. A hint of chai infuses the citrus fruit, becoming increasingly mineral-driven as it opens in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. A touch of white chocolate and peach skin gain depth towards the finish, but not letting go completely like Billaud's other Premier Crus. Still, this is a very classy Montmains. (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2024)

Rich, chocolatey, syrupy, light hop bitterness on finish. Much to like; it defines the stout style — 2 months ago

I’m not sure my palate could have made it through this marathon, though I’d happily die trying!

@Tom Casagrande It can be a challenging evening for sure, we're tasting a lot of bottles with ~1oz pours, if you maintain regular hydration you'll make the finish line.
