Le Haut-Lieu Sec Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2021

Very similar impression to Pouillon grande vallee, quince, ripe dry fruit and nutmeg, and lean this vintage. Popping acid — a year ago

Les Caves du Sieur d'Arques

Toques et Clochers Océanique Limoux Chardonnay 2008

9.1

Light yellow golden color and white stone fruits with hints of oil and salinity carrying through to acidic biting palate with lively if not elegant texture and good length. Surprised to see on back label as 100% Chardonnay which in retrospect makes sense. Excellent. Checked list, was GL 2010 13.6 value, only two bottles with one gone to Maria/Ali so no more! Also two of same from Haute Vallee instead of Oceanique which hopefully still in stash. Made exactly the same way but from district vineyard terroir. Too bad can’t make direct comparison. — 4 years ago

Haute Vallee du Gassac White Blend 2019

Fairly young and complex white. Modest gold color. Not as good as the ‘18, but intriguing. Starts off as Sauv Blanc and then blends in lots of melons. Medium plus thickness. Very nice. — 4 years ago

Marc Hébrart

Cuvée de Réserve Brut 1er Cru Champagne Blend

These Hebrart champagnes are criminally underrated. Light gold with a nice burst of tiny bubbles. Creamy and effervescent. The nose is evocative and immediately appealing. Chamomile and chalk. Deep summer fruits and apples along with peaches and cream. Toasted bread and almonds after some time in the glass.

Honestly all of these releases from Champagne Hebrart are spectacular. From Premier Cru plots in the Vallee de la Marne. 80/20 PN/CH and disgorged in may of 2020 with a dosage of 8 g/l. Pleasant acidity and silky smooth. There’s an underlying elegance with the entire range of champagnes and this is no exception.

Graceful and lithe on the tongue, there’s plenty to love here. Generous orchard fruit and a dab of honey. More than a hint of spice here along with more chalk and salinity. Lemon curd and apricots accompany the medium long finish. Magnificent wine from one of my favorite producers.
