Cannot go wrong with 2018 vintage on most central Tuscan wines and this isn’t an exception. A nice, inexpensive, appealing and approachable Sangiovese driven with a gentle tannins, bright orange acidity, juicy cranberry, ripe red cherries and spice and subtle touch of oak. Vines grown in deep volcanic ash. Pale Ruby with aromas of fresh red fruits and slight smoky tobacco notes. On the palate juicy sour cherry and strawberry with slight fennel spice, well balanced with acidity. Fine tannins, rich finish ending with fruit, mineral, sweet spice and smoky meaty notes. I hardly get a corked wine (so many screw caps in Australia these days) but now I’ve had 2 in successive nights. Not as bad as the Clape Les Amis Syrah last night . This Etna was very dusty and “partly corked” if you like. Quite fulsome on the palate for an Etna red. Palate is earthy, savoury, mineral with cherry (liqueur). All the descriptors that make Etna Reds appealing. A touch of oak influence which is not usual but not unwelcome. — 4 years ago
