Medium weight, lots of red fruit, showy. Was offered as an alternative to the Clos de la Roche (I drunk their last bottle on a previous occasion), doesn’t come close. — 6 years ago

Cave Des Rois St-Saphorin Syrah 2020

Pretty purple dress. First superb nose both fresh and peppery on small black blueberry, blackcurrant, violet flower; then more surprising notes on mountain climates and stink in Switzerland for me. It evokes more southern notes of syrah, such as Cornas, St-Joseph, bacon and smoke without the graphite charcoal side. Really a beautiful cuvée that connects two types of syrah usually tasted. The mouth is fluid. Cuvée full of charm with certainly cold extraction to infuse the fruit to the maximum without excess alcohol. Congratulations Switzerland once again! 🙏🇨🇭

Jolie robe pourpre. 🙏🇨🇭

Lavaut St Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2009

Fuller bodied than expected (but barely medium weight) after reading about the Lavaux site which is cooler and south facing. It is always the last Rousseau Wine to be picked. Notes of sour red cherry and forest floor - lovely earthy aromas. Appropriate intensity and weight for a Premier Cru over a Grand Cru which are becoming over priced. I have one left which I would like to compare with a Bass Phillip Premium from Gippsland from 2009 both tasted blind. The consensus should be interesting. — 8 years ago

Interesting! I would have thought it would be quite a dense beast. I do love Lavaux, as it is as you say, a cooler site and usually has more perfume in youth than it’s neighbouring counterparts (re: Champeaux, Combottes, Clos St-Jacques etc)

Gorgeous on the nose. Classic aged burgundy. Soft pretty cherry fruit, with gorgeous subtle brambles and earthy notes. Browning at edges but in a good place with lots of secondary notes — 5 months ago

A nice surprise and was served blind after a Gevrey first growth, someone called Barolo even, which made sense except for the length that was less than average. Aromas of tobacco leaf, spices, grippy tannins and a nice acidity, pretty good balance overall although I found it to have notes of early evolution.

Belle surprise après un Lavaux St-Jacques, certains pensaient Barolo, très vrai malgré une finale courte. Feuilles tabac, épices, acidité assez forte et des tannins asséchants un petit peu, je l’ai trouvé un peu évolué.
