Terres De Renaissance

Domaine Viret

Renaissance Terre de Cosmoculture Red Rhone Blend

What a fascinating Rhone blend, from a far south appellation and vigneron I’ve never encountered. Given the 18years of bottle age plus pre release, some serious stuffing- especially at 15% abv- but really presents more like a fresh, slightly funky northern Rhone, ie, Syrah. Like George Clooney in ballet shoes, but truly graceful. Deep black fruits, some gaminess & feral qualities. Apparently the maker subscribes to such a higher order of biodynamics that he holds a patent on it. Finish fairly long & satisfying. Paired with the main courses of a modern Korean tasting menu, including roast duck. Doesn’t have to be a unicorn to be enjoyed, but this one is. Very special. Rosenthal book. — a month ago

This was mind blowing. Searing power but also earthy tones of forest that perfectly complimented duck and sesame noodles with caviar.

Terres Brunes Arbin Mondeuse

Lots of dark fruit—dark cherry, blackberry, plum. Dense. Slightly perfumed. Tannic. Easy to enjoy. — 2 months ago

Domaine Auguste Clape

Renaissance Cornas Syrah 2013

Initial varnishy notes - a little cold. Barb said cherry and mint notes but she was not a fan of this wine. Not living up to being the younger brother of the Clape Cornas. The palate showed mineral and black currant with a tarry note. I have had better examples of Renaissance. — 3 months ago

Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend 2021

2021. Kermit knocking it out of the park again, as always. Pretty raspberry/cherry notes, spice, fruit roll up, hint of pepper, crushed rocks, baking spice, earth and great acid. Love the 13.5 ABV. — 13 days ago

Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay 2022

Very light and pale. Granny Smith and a little spice on the nose. Medium acidity. Not super fruity. No oak apparently. Never had a white Beaujolais before. Good value for about $20. — 7 days ago

Grille Midi Fleurie Gamay 2019

Floral and dark plum/berry aromas and flavors, solid structure, very good balancing acidity, long, lingering finish, needs more cellaring, Jean-Paul does it again!! — 3 months ago
