Est. in 1861, first winery in the Napa by Prussian-born Charles Krug. Today the winery remains under the leadership of the Peter and Marc Mondavi, whose family purchased winery in 1943. Fruit sourced mainly from five family estates in Yountville, deep Ruby with ripe dark berry scents and sweet spice. v21. As soon as you open , pour and sniff…imagine crushing a bunch of Cabernet grapes in your hand in the barrel room of a winery, this is the smell you get opening this wine! This wine consistently over delivers.
Nose evolves to soft tobacco.

First time tasting the ‘19 vintage, and the Produttori edged out one of my fave under the radar barolistas this early on. Maybe because it released sooner? Both red fruited with sour cherries and elegant tamed tannin/acid, but the Produttori had another gear of sweet incense and hard candy. The vintage does remind me of a more approachable’13 from a tannin perspective. — 6 months ago

Light ruby hue. Aromas of cherry, cream, grass, minerals, and smoke. Medium-light body, soft tannins, and plus acidity. Bright and balanced with a lasting finish. A little tight at first, but softens after opening a while with hints of vanilla on the palate. — 2 years ago
Small production. RSV has under 200 acres of vineyards in 5 Carneros locations & a winery in the Stags Leap District. The wines are 100% organic. Ruby with berry, cherry & spice aromas. On the palate flavors of wild strawberry & cherry with complex spice, citrus, oak and balanced acidity. Fun wine, extended skin contact - looks like a Rose and tasted like one too: mix between tart red fruit & savory notes, some potpourri, fairly exotic. Palate was bit more austere, open canvas for variety of light fare. We had huge salad w/smoked salmon and it was fantastic. Balanced and dry finish, go find some Georgian wine! — a month ago
