Too young, obviously, but it called to me from the cellar! Gorgeous layers - individuals now, but I’m guessing will integrate together beautifully with more bottle age. Big dense black fruit leads the nose, whole the palette brings a great meaty smoky quality. There’s already a satisfying savoriness there I can’t wait to check in again 10 years or so. That special energy and beautiful texture I expect from Colgin is there in spades. Bottle 2 waits patiently! — 2 years ago

2002 Rousseau Chambertin. Family dinner at Mast. Opened early, but didn’t decant. Was def tight at first. Eventually opened up, but lacked the roundness and openness of a mature, ready wine. Prob too early to drink yet. — 7 years ago

Very Northern Rhone in style. Often read descriptions saying Bacon notes but rarely get it - definitely shows here along with some spice and pepper. 100% whole bunch wild yeast Fermentation. Medium intensity - savoury with soft black fruits. Does Steve Flamsteed ever make a bad wine - another great effort. Tasted again 172 weeks later on 18th February 2022 with similar notes and enjoyment. Tasted again 177 weeks later on 25th March 2022. Excellent Syrah in the northern Rhone style. Bacon and Charcuterie notes with spice and pepper. Cured meat - savoury and delicious. Won the Trevor Mast Trophy for best Shiraz at Royal Melbourne. Had another bottle 238 weeks later on 26th May 2023 with consistent notes. An absolutely brilliant Shiraz in the Northern Rhone style. Cured meats; savoury. I can see why it won best Shiraz at Royal Melbourne. — 8 years ago

Ritche vineyard chardonnay.

Pop and pour. A light golden color. On the nose: subtle notes of lemon, apricot, nutty vanilla. Taste: orange peel, lemon, honey, vanilla toast with a medium finish and medium plus acidity keeping it crisp and fresh.

Enjoying with the fresh Langoustines, red shrimp, and raw crudo!

The only Tor Cab made under the “Rock” label, as it was the first non-Single Vineyard Cab produced. Subsequent non-SVD’s went under the Tor label. 95% Cimarossa and 5% Mast. Drinking very well right now with s beautiful Cab profile. — 8 years ago

A youthful Ruby red with a purple tinge. Black pepper, dried plum and other savoury dark fruits. A wonderful rendition of a Northern Rhone Syrah - not dissimilar to a good Saint Joseph. Still young in its drinking window with a long future into the 2030s. Winner of the Trevor Mast Trophy for best Shiraz at Royal Melbourne in 2019. The first of 6 bottles. Great value for only $38. It’s not often I taste the same wine only 4 weeks apart but I had a 2nd on 4th December 2022. Just a terrific Shiraz by any measure. I can see why it won the awards that it did. Quite dense crimson in colour. Very spicy nose with meaty notes. Silky graphite like tannins. More savoury spicy than fruity on the medium weight palate. Great conditions in the Yarra Valley in 2015. The winner of the Trevor Mast Trophy for Best Shiraz and also Trophy for best single vineyard wine at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards in 2016. Amazing QPR at only $30. Will go on for 5+ years at least with the structure it has. Have 2 bottles left. — 6 years ago
