Simpatico Rutherford Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2020

Solid wine from Bill Harrison. Deep purple color. Aromas of raspberry, blackberry, earthy, dust notes and spice box. Great wine with the pipe. Loads of dark fruit and blue fruit on the palate - nice tannins. Cheers! — 2 months ago

Napa Valley Petit Verdot 2013

Not too often do you get to drink 100% petit Verdot. My last bottle after 2-3 the last few years. Double decanted, then consumed from bottle over the course of 6hrs.

Special anniversary bottling. 36 months in oak. Right off the bat, I’d say the wine likely needed/benefitted from that amount of oak due to how brash PV can be solo, but I’d also say it’s probably going to cause the tannin to outlive the fruit. Not as black as I expected in the glass, more of a deep red-purple. Aromatics of ripe red and black berry fruits, baking spices, dark cocoa, and dark espresso. For being all PV slathered in a lot of oak, it’s very elegant on the palate…seems like a merlot/Mourvèdre hybrid with its black cherry cordial, chocolate and slightly smoked meat notes. There’s a unique tangy-ness to the fruit, and a lot of tannin at the finish. No rush, but if you want a good bit of fruit to balance things out, maybe consume in the next 3-5yrs.

@Dawn E. : You certainly don’t see PV on its own very often!

@Hugh O'Riordan : Same here. Their Simpatico is quite the value wine.

Wheeler Farms

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

First bottle in a while. Nose is bit muted showing notes of plum and oak. Deep dark ruby colored. Ripe plum, with cassis and blue fruit briefly appearing mid palate, black licorice, pencil shavings, blueberry pie. Soft but grippy tannins. Holding together lovely and really growing into its age, with many years left. Lovely mouthfeel, enjoyable all around and easy drinking, showing once again why it’s a house favorite. — 7 months ago

Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

At this point I’m betting it needs some more time to open. Red fruit dominant, though some blue is noticeable. Tannins tight and fully loaded. Medium finish. Different than other George III I’ve had, more red fruited. — 2 years ago

I’m a big fan of what Wheeler Farms is doing. Dark ruby. Plum, black cherry, currant. Chewy tannins. Nice mid palate with pretty long finish. Decant needed, at least an hour. Not as good as the 16 Cuvée or the 18 Cab, but still very nice. — 2 years ago
