Celebrating La Festa del Piemonte 2022: Piemonte Notes from the Delectable Community

Vinous’ La Festa del Piemonte 2022 kicks off on Thursday, March 31 with a once-in-a-lifetime vertical of Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio’s Barolo Monprivato and Cà d’Morissio, with vintages back to 1989, all from magnum, hosted by Antonio Galloni. La Festa continues on Friday, April 1 with the Big Bottle Gala Dinner & Charity Auction. Fifteen leading Barolo producers will each host a table and pour wines from their library. Vinous' ultimate Piemonte experience finishes on Saturday, April 2 with the 2017 Barolo Masterclass & Winemaker Lunch hosted by Antonio. Guests will hear directly from the growers as they talk about the current vintage and recent trends during the 2017 Barolo Masterclass. Barolo Nebbiolo 2016

First encounter with the 2016 Trediberri Barolo. After an hour in the decanter it is very closed and tight. After an additional 30 minutes of had work of spinning the glass the wine finally unleashed its inner complexity. As it opens up it displays an intense fruit profile with slightly tart red berries; cranberries, rose hip and blood orange with a softer edged strawberry fruit and lavender coming from behind. Beyond the fruit there is plenty of complexity coming from a pronounced portion of incense, tar and spicy characters.
A penetrating acidity and pronounced, ye approachable, tannins with a gripping texture dictates the palate. A very good fatigue on the mid palate, strong but with light steps and plenty of vibrant energy. An expansive complexity holds your attention through a solid finish. 92 +
If opening today I would give it 3-4 hours in the decanter, and don’t rush it in the glass. I am confident that it will age beautifully, and I will keep my additional 6 pack on the back for a couple of years before a revisit.

Bricco delle Viole Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Terrific. Clearly young but even now this wine is astounding. Dark cherries and flowers. Just the right amount of tannin and oak to coat your palate for a lengthy finish. So many years ahead of it, but a stunner today. — 6 years ago

Rocche dell'Annunziata Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2017 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is powerful, dense and tightly wound. This is an especially dark, somber wine from a site where Barolos tend to be much more floral and red-toned in their fruit expression. At the same time, the Rocche is less impacted by oak than some of the earlier vintages, which leads me to think all the 2017 needs is time in bottle to unwind. There is a lot here. Le Vigne Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

A beautiful, sensual, sophisticated Barolo. It needs to breath a little to open up. Elegant nose and persistent on the mouth this is a solid Barolo from Sandrone. — 7 years ago

Le Vigne Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

After the great 2016 this is just another beast of a wine! And ok it’s made for the long run but this is a pleasure drinking it now. Very fine silky tannins, berries, sunny flowers, spicy, cacao and mint, it’s al there. The finish is looooooong! — 4 years ago

Vigneto Monvigliero Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

Pronounced nose of Juicy red plums, red cherries, strawberry, raspberry and cranberry, rose hips, dust ... fresh herbs and mint then licorice. Med+ acid, medium body with smooth silky integrated tannins. Medium finish but overall so incredibly weightless yet with so much character... showed even better the second night!
What is so impressive is how refreshing and lifted this is amongst so many darker ready wines from this warm vintage!!!
