Vinos Comando

Rozas 1er Cru Vino de Paraje Grenache 2018

Fragrant & flowery yet profound at the same time.
Raspberries galore with a pinch of dusty spices & a healthy dose of red peppercorns. So fresh & so vibrant.
On the palate this is focused, pure, crystal clean with brilliant concentration & depth. Juicy tannins and flowery acidity complete the picture.
This seems light & crunchy yet is so elegant at the same time. The ultimate food wine for me!
Absolutely love it!!

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2017

Absolutely pretty nose of dried cherries, rose petals, Forrest Floor and pipe tobacco. Complex pallet of raspberry, black tea, leather and a touch of sweet spices. Very fine tannins and a smooth tannins. Very expressive. One of those years where the producer held off on making his top shelf wines. Their best fruit went in to this one. Gorgeous! — 3 years ago

Silver Oak

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

I feel very fortunate to have this wine on my birthday. So many of our wine memories include Silver Oak. Wonderful to enjoy a bottle with a hint of age on it. — 3 years ago

Tenuta delle Terre Nere

Etna Bianco Carricante Blend 2020

Classy feel in mouth rarely achieved. Mineral and salt on nose and palate. Hints of raspberry. And lemon. Think big white wine — 3 years ago

Taylor Fladgate

Vintage Port Blend 2017

Felt like a vampire pouring this dark purple port into the carafe. Similar color and viscosity to a pint of blood. Dark and dried fruit forward. Bold and semi-sweet with a nice finish. Too young but whatever. I enjoyed. — 3 years ago

Lava Cap

El Dorado Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Quite fruit forward but not over powering and works well with a hearty dish. Enjoyed with a Bolognese of beef, pork, and veal. — 3 years ago

Kanonkop Estate

Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

A wine that more than lives up to its reputation, this estate Cabernet from Kanonkop in South Africa is a tremendous flag-bearer for the quality of Bordeaux blends (or, as in this case, single varietals) in the Cape - and particularly in that iconic region Stellenbosch.

An exuberant nose that leaps from the glass and features cassis, fig, cinnamon, some garam masala and cigar box, with more than a gentle tug of graphite. A touch of tomato vine completes what is a very harmonious aroma - and quite an austere one at that. It was ten minutes before I took a sip.

The palate is even more giving, after a two hour decant, with incredibly concentrated flavours of red cherry, blackcurrant and plum, and a lovely undercurrent of dark chocolate and vanilla. This is seriously accomplished stuff, with more than enough backbone to age, and a very long finish. I would love to try this in ten years - even five - but only bought the one bottle so that’s a pipe dream. If this was the Médoc, you’d be thrilled. Truly, an astonishingly good wine.

Girolamo Russo

Nerina Etna Bianco Carricante Blend 2019

Hands down, I am in love with this wine. Beautiful floral and citrus bouquet with Roquefort cheese, aloe, estragon, honeydew secretion, chalk and grapefruit. Sophisticated, fresh and savoury, perfectly balanced and flavourful. Long aftertaste full of lemon, cheese and chalk. Now some information that is not available on the label. Blend of Carricante, Catarratto, Inzolia, Grecanico, Minnella and Coda di Volpe. Only 10000 bottles produced. And (!) macerated on skins for 24 hours. Bravo. — 3 years ago
