Château Graville-Lacoste

Graves Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2019

White BDX is almost always a value and such a versatile food pairing wine. Initially the Sauvignon Blanc dominates, but with time the Semillon (75%) takes center stage: wet gravel, green papaya, ginger, green melon, grapefruit, green fig, Burt’s Bees lip balm… as the glass warms up, there are even some peach/mango notes coming through and I get more of that mid palate Semillon weight and depth. This wine wants oysters, but also plays well with coconut chicken curry & sticky rice. Such a classic. — 3 years ago

Zenato

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2017

Very Soft apple cider. Maple wood, the “milk” in milk chocolate, not the “lavender” in lavender, but the “milk” of lavender? Whatever it is, there is like a floral or herbal substance or spirit animating the flavour that’s carried by the “milk chocolate”. Some kind of cucumberism?

Lots of complexities to this despite being a red blend. I guess, maybe that explains the encompassing or hard-to-nail flavours. It’s an archetype or an ensemble rather than something singular. That said it’s got plenty of personality.

Château Fuisse

Vieilles Vignes Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2012

This is bonkers good. It’s like drinking honey coated Werthers original candies, but in a very good way. Nose meets palate. Werthers right away, then honey, white flowers, fondant. Still pretty good acidity. My mouth salivates right away and screams for more. Medium body. Lush. Golden yellow in color. Milk and honey cookies pair perfectly. — 3 years ago

Château Gruaud Larose

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

This is a stunning wine, young but so silky and smooth. The Queen directly after her first sip asked me: “how many bottles are in the cellar” 🤣🤣🤦 no brainer this one🤙 — 3 years ago

Envinate

Migan Vinos Atlánticos Listan Negro 2019

Lots to love about the 2019 Migan once you get past the highly reductive aromas and unripe tannins. With air, the reductive notes do meld into the peppery, floral, red-cherry bouquet, appearing as a smoky, Chinese herb-spice mix note. Saline and tart on the palate, with cherries, cranberries, and spiced meat, as well as a hint of bitterness that gives the finish a sort of stoney quality. Very mineral in short. It’s quite engrossing really, but I’d recommend not to chew in any bit when you drink this, as the tannic-forward nature can be quite distracting. — 3 years ago
