Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Deep garnet color; graphite, blackberries, and oak on the nose; medium acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like casis, crushed gravel, and leather with a long finish. It may be a little past prime, but it still has a little fruit. Best wine I've ever had. Albe Barolo Nebbiolo 2018

Happy New Year to all! Still catching up on my notes from the holiday season. I was pretty spot on in this blind - basically pointed to the wine on the display shelves. Lucky guess? The wine itself was delicious. To me, it was showed true varietal typicity and was rather pure. Juicy red fruits, floral, melange of herbs, and some pepper. High acidity and tannins, yet has a suppleness that made it highly approachable at this stage. Best red of the night for me. — 10 months ago

Viña Ardanza Reserva Selección Especial Tempranillo Blend 2016

Romantic evening with my wife with venison in port and chocolate sauce and roast potatoes. Blackberry, bramble hedgerows and a hint of vanilla. Very balanced wine that will get better with time. Amazing value for money at 35 euro/dollars. The fruit complemented the irony venison perfectly. Enjoy your Sunday! — 10 months ago

My second set of wines to provide as part of a co-host event.

I picked these up during a visit to Morlet in the fall of ‘21. Sadly, these are the last of my initial stash. 58 semillon/36 SB/6 Muscat.

Poured blind for a group of 20 people at the end of a wine event, I was shocked that not one single person called this Cali. Many Sauternes, Barsac, and a few South African dessert wine guesses. It’s undeniably sporting botrytis flavors, but the richness has a wonderful spine of acidity. Honeyed mango, white peach and chock-full of orange blossom on the nose, there’s added candied spice and honeycomb on the palate. Didn’t pick up any nutty flavors (which I enjoy in Sauternes), but this was also fairly young. Extremely “fresh” for a dessert wine, if that makes sense. Best Cali dessert wine I’ve had, I think.

Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Pure perfection from Napa Valley, the 2006 is at its peak with incredible aromatics of currants, smoke, tobacco, and floral notes all define the perfect bouquet. Its layered texture, ultra-fine tannins, and perfect balance lead to a perfect ending with varied spices and dark berries lingering on the pallet. Definitely needed to breathe for at least 2 hours as the first taste after pulling the cork was too powerful and acidic. — 10 months ago

Grand Cru Classé en 1855 Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Aww yeah. Classic Bordeaux, and indicative of Margaux. Very deep, chewy but silky tannins as if biting into a dark chocolate truffle. Savory, but with plenty of supporting blackberry type fruit. Some subtle floral notes on the nose. Just excellent and lingering, quite complex and worth seeking out. — 10 months ago
