Wow this stuff was amazing #chriscarpenterisgod — 9 years ago
My overall favorite of the night. Amazing nose of wildflowers, perfume, and baking spices. Bold but balanced palate with dark blue fruits and a finish that just approached sweet. The Derek Jeter of wine. Incredible! — 9 years ago

06' Lokoya Spring MT. Another wine that you truly appreciate after several years in the bottle. Quite tannic in it's youth. It certainly has come together now.
Purple in color. Full bodied & made in 100% new oak. The oak is certainly well infused with this Spring Mountain Cab. Gorgeous black and blue fruits. A bit of sweetness/earthiness. Polished tannins & a finish that seems to go on forever. — 9 years ago

On the nose, dark tary cassis, black licorice, dried florals, touch of green bell pepper and black olive. The fruits are ripe & juicy. The tannins are very well resolved. Blackberries, black cherries, blueberry pie with end crust, black plum, black raspberries, raspberry cola, black cherry cola, sprinkle of herbs, just a whiff of green bell pepper, clove, nutmeg, hint of cinnamon, mix of dry & fresh florals, leather, tobacco, dry stems, crushed brown volcanic rocks, nice acidity & decent, long, finish. Many say the 98 vintage wasn't very good and that's generally true. However, I've found many showed much better in time than when they were young and being reviewed. This one rides the fence of overachieving the vintage and falling into the 98 vintage characterization. The fruits just don't sing as they should but it's not bad either. The wines structure also falls short of what we expect from very good Napa Cabernet. The complexity and elegance are very solid. Tonight, the 98 was better on it's own than with the ribeye. Looking forward to seeing the Lokoya staff next month. — 10 years ago

My better half pulled this - I screamed NOOOOO!!!! as I heard the cork pop - we only had one bottle and I thought it would be way too early. The good news is that this Chris Carpenter made Syrah from Spring Mountain, while a baby, yes, is still absolutely delicious.
The nose offers up baking spice and vanilla. The tannins are gripping on the entry. Flavors of blackberry, brown sugar, hint of bacon (the strong savory notes that can be typical of Syrah are thankfully absent). Very balanced - it’s fruit forward without being sweet or a fruit bomb. There is decent acid but the tannins are dominating.
Give this one a little more time or a serious decant. Still excellent now. — 8 years ago

Tasted these at Yangarra. Chris Carpenter is making Hickinbotham there. If you don't know Chris...maybe you know his "Lokoya" Cabernets. On the nose, raspberries, plum, blackberries, black cherries and dry florals. Soft and supple blackberries, plum, dark cherries, strawberries follow late, soft, round and delicate spices, silky tannins and a touch of anise. The finish is lean cherries with medium slightly dry medium plus tannins. Tasted with Chris Carpenter. — 9 years ago

20 years in and this wine displays few signs of gray hairs. On the nose, notes of butterscotch and light oak.
The palette is dense and well balanced, with hints of lemons, quince and caramel. Close your eyes and you could be in burgundy.
Make it a wonderful 2017, peeps! 🍾😃 — 9 years ago

Been on a Howell Mountain binge for a while. Loving the tight mountain fruit and Volcanic soils giving the spice background. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec. Probably needs more time in the bottle. I think it will then loosen up. — 9 years ago

Hunting the wine list and found this gem. Veeder is my go to. Then I learn it's from Chris Carpenter!! #chriscarpenterisgod in my book. Fruit exploded with no decanting. Very dark in color, blueberry, slate, and incredibly full bodied. Paired well with crab cake and bone-in filet. On my list for next Napa trip. — 9 years ago
