Another great value from Sicily ($15). Cerasuolo di Vittoria which literally translates to cherry from Vittoria and is a DOCG required blend of Nero di Avola (50-70%) and the amazing Frappato. Usually a brighter similarity to an actual red cherry, this version is a deeper expression of sappy dark red bing cherry, black raspberry with juicy plum, some licorice spice and a cut of volcanic minerality.

At the apex of Frappato mono-varietal wines for me, this 2013 shows blueberry, strawberry, spice and earth that fuse together in an elegant but persistent flavor spectrum. You have to pay attention, and when you do you are rewarded and reminded of Burgundy. Perfect acidity and a fine tannic structure. Of the Tami wines, this is the best and shows the best aspects of the Frappato grape character in a ridiculous price of about $15. Juicy blueberries, red raspberry, and fresh wild flowers on the nose and palate. Really well tuned acidity and supple, but bright acidity. On a big #Sicily kick of late, this is a step or two up from yesterday in complexity and class. Another steal at $22-25 this is also a blend of Nero di Avola and Frappato. The nose started out reduced, but the palate was clean. The nose grew leaps and bounds after an hour to a fresh mix of red fruit perfume ala Burgundy, fresh cut flowers, and a little wet stone funk. The palate is light as a feather, fresh and consistent with bursts of blood orange, cherry, subtle spice. The finish streams on with excellent acidity and fine, though quite firm, youthful tannin.

Nero d'Avola and Frappato in roughly equal measure aged in clay amphora. Cherry as the name indicates indeed, as well as strawberry immediately and currants with 2 or so hours of air. A lot of floral notes up front reminded me of Barolo, especially with the mineral notes and the silky, but firm tannins. This is the best wine in a while for me from Sicily not from Mt. Etna.
