Spotted this 100-year co-op bottling front the great 16’ vintage for only $25, and could not resist to pick up one.
Stewed black and blue berries, black currant, ripe raspberry, dry herbs, hint of cured meat and leather on the nose. Medium body. The candied red fruits on the the palate feels a bit syrupy to me. The medium acidity leaning towards sour.
Predominately Grenache. Great price for a CdP. — 3 years ago
Incredible. Held up amazingly well after 16 years. Brisket or Mac&Cheese. Still aromatic. Solid. No awkward tannins and smooth finish. — 5 years ago
Very nice. Dry but not overly. Lots of fruit, good oak structure. Cherries, . Nice for sale price of $16 — a year ago
Founded 1972, Tom & Sally Jordan, from CO, went to CA’s wine country & produced inaugural vintage in 1976. A Fav of mine with a steak, and the ‘16 is Wow big! Blend of mostly Cab Sauv with Merlot, Petit Verdot & Malbec. Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruit & pepper spice. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry, blackberry and fig with oak, sweet spice, leather & cacao notes. Rich tannins, well balanced and integrated with fruit & oak. Very Nice! — 3 years ago
Heck of a hosting by @Weston Eidson last night for the City Club wine group. All wines were tasted blind.
My other Co-WOTN. For me, these wines are up there with the best in Napa. The history, the people and the wines are just top shelf. Loved our visit here earlier this year. Having had the ‘13, ‘14 and ‘16, this seems to be the most accessible and certainly more so than the ‘13. This was powerful the entire evening and the fruit stayed ripe and sweet covering the red, blue and black spectrum. Graphite, dark chocolate up front, but it did turn more elegant at the finish showing potpourri and baking spices. Sheer To Kalon power. — 5 years ago
2016 version of this beautiful Pinot 13.3% alc — 2 years ago
Deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits and some herb notes, mostly Cab Sauv with small amounts of Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, aged 16 months in 44% new French oak. On the palate flavors of blackberry and black cherry with sweet spice, cedar and notes of cacao. A consistent wine and a good value. Medium+ finish, fine tannins, well balanced ending with fruit , toasty oak and herb tobacco spice. — 2 years ago
