Avec Les Bon Veux Saison Malt

Saison DuPont is one of my favorite beers ever, amazingly my first time having this one. Insanely good, fuller body, more lemon oil than cream, pepper, clove, lemongrass, bread. I can’t believe they don’t add spices to this. So freaking complex. Finish lasts well over 30 seconds with lemon, poppy seeds, hay, jasmine tea. Wish I could find more of this. — 2 years ago

An odd one for sure this year. Aged in barrel on sea lettuce, bottled, and then aged further underwater. Brine, iodine, and a strawberry like fruitiness — 8 months ago

Conti Zecca

Nero Rosso del Salento Negroamaro Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

2018 opened December 2023. Cool notes dominate the nose. I want to call the scent that I detect as spearmint, but it doesn’t have the spiciness of a mint— just the coolness. Menthol without the ‘ol? Hint of ripe cherries underneath its chill façade. The cherries and the mint continue their theme on the front of the palate. Light to medium tannic structure that expresses itself towards the finish. Kinda weak on the mid-palate, but that’s a momentary lapse. It ends with a medium-long bitter finish that mostly consists of mildly bitter volcanic high notes. I drinking this along side, a beef stew with lots of carrots, brussels sprouts, and some leftover bacon in it. I’m not much on wine pairing, but this compliments, my stew perfectly. — a year ago

Classic Gueuze Lambic 2017

Happy belated Zwanze Day! Celebrating with this 2017 bottling of Cantillon’s Classic Gueuze. Over the years, I have drifted to be a little more fond of 3 Fonteinen but I’m really splitting hairs. This is world class.

Popped and poured; crushed in 30min after doing the first yard work of 2024 and getting the hops trained to the trellis. The gueuze pours a brilliant golden color with a persistent head. On the nose, mostly tasty stone fruits: apricots, peach, kumquat, horse blanket, stony minerals. On the palate, the gueuze is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and refreshing. Drink now.
