We had a vertical tasting with 2007. Both excellent. 07 lighter in color. 07 a little more fragrant. Both had tastes of leather tobacco and black cherry. Both medium bodied. Going forward, I will drink Brunello sooner than 20 years. Some fruit got lost a bit — 5 months ago

Second time trying this from the 2015 vintage, first enjoyed five years ago. This was my Christmas Day wine, when it’s always hard to really appreciate or concentrate on a wine what with everything else going on! I ordinarily go for familiar favourites from the Rhône, or aged Bordeaux. Anyway, this Brunello was still super macho, austere and in need of either more time in bottle or some very rustic, Tuscan food. Or both! — 10 months ago

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli is quite mineral in the glass. Ashen stones, savory grilled herbs and smoked meats give way to woodland berries. This is dark and radiant, showing the classic racy fruit of the year, yet unbelievably soft and plaint, taking on a saline edginess toward the close. It finishes youthfully coy with dusty tannins, leaving just a touch of lingering licorice. The Montosoli is understated today, yet with a feminine beauty and inner sweetness that I find attractive. Strong floral & spice on the nose when first opened. After 20 minutes decanted, delicate layers of cherry & blueberry fruit on the palate with light spice… and a very nice long finish. Soft tannins are pronounced.
This wine has not peaked. I will try it again in a couple of years. But it is delightful right now! — a month ago

They will say “ Burgundian”. An hour of air with a little chill, a nice nose of blood, forest, morello cherries, spices, everything knit together well. The palate , especially against Marcella Hazan’s Bolognese, gives really nice acid/tannin balance and then the fruit.
Or should I say the fruit and tertiary flavors, sense. Nice middling forest floor, cherries(dried), some leather. A lovely BdM. I wouldn’t say for very long holding, but delicious now and the next few years.

Nice - not spectacular. Shy nose of candied cherries and earth. A little tight on opening - fully expressive in about 3 hours. Palate of raspberries, candied cherries, mossy undergrowth and minerals, rounded out by a kick of clove spiciness. Tannins were grippy but not overwhelming. — 3 years ago

I had a couple of these bottles pre-Covid - fall 2019? It was my introduction to Stella di Campalto. They were fantastic young and you could see where they were headed. I bought six of the 750s and a couple of 1.5L. This is the first one I’ve opened. This Rosso would hold its own against almost any Brunello from the 2015 vintage, which makes sense, since they just take a barrel of the Brunello and declassify it and release it as a Rosso one year early. Delicious cherry, light on its feet, and very pretty florals on the nose. Give it time it open or a quick decant, which I did not this time. Great with steak, but also contemplative on its own. — 2 months ago

Splash decanted and enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2019 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Morello cherry, red flowers, black tea, dried green herbs and gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and has that Ciacci Piccolomini silkiness. I felt the 2019 was a little reticent for the first 30min (not at all surprised) but opened beautifully after that and continued to build steam until the last glass. Very easy to enjoy and fabulous with bolognese. Drink now with a 30min decant and through 2044 — 5 months ago

This sample was given to me. Tannins are resolved to the point of almost nonexistent. A fair amount of acid with what little fruit was dark and baked. Cherries leather and tobacco leaf. Darn yummy but I wish I had some food with it. — 7 months ago

On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. The Il Marroneto only gained power with time. Looking back on my notes, the last time I had the 2001 Classico was nearly ten years ago (and I had enjoyed it a few times before that). Since then, I’ve learned a lot about the aging arc of Sangiovese and those experiences were just entering the early drinking window for the 2001 Il Marroneto. This is where I really like them. Drink now with patience and plenty of air and through 2036. Bottle No. 6064 — 10 months ago

2017 was hot. Ripe to tart red/dark cherries, blackberries , blackcurrant. The fruity notes were quite tight. Hints of black Liqorice and a lot of the earth, herbs and tannin shown through. This is still a beautiful wine., but I preferred the 2018.

Because when my wife spends all day making her bolognese, I have to give her something nice to drink. This one was in perfect shape, with gorgeous cherry and orange peel and cedar layered over leather and earth. Great acids suggest this has another 5-10 in it easily. — 6 years ago
