I love this Montalcino ($63 Davidson’s) and the general cherry-herbal-menthol flavor profile of Montalcinos. I’ve had this one before, and enjoyed almost as much as the last time. This time, it was paired opposite a barolo (also rated) that was probably even better. — 2 months ago
An outstanding bottle similar to the previous times I have had it. 3 hour slow ox and then decanted at dinner. Went brilliantly with white truffles! Had the Caprili with the veal and the body may have suited the veal but the Soldera was the WOTN — a month ago
Grosso! Might be too big if I wasn’t tasting twenty-five other wines. Still, it was quite nice and I would revisit w something tomato. — 2 months ago
Aromas of leather, wet soil, black cherry and menthol. The lush palate features red and black cherry and strawberry fruit with hints of orange zest, black olives, balsamic vinegar and baking spices. A bit of vanilla on the long and lingering finish. Well structured tannins and abundant acidity. Solid. — 2 months ago
2019 opened September ‘24. Unusual nose — briars and turmeric. The light red fruits on the front are quickly subsumed by a complex wave of tannins. I detect dark chocolate in the base notes. Orange zest in the high notes. There’s some other stuff happening in the initial tannic rush that I can’t identify, but they’re yummy. These desperate elements are held together by an initially soft tannic structure — but a stronger mineral component starts at the back of the mid pallet and it provides a long tasty finish.
Personally, I think it was best right out of the bottle. After the first glass, I let it open up for an hour, and it got a little less interesting as some of the.subtleties disappeared — but still very tasty! That suggests to me that it might not hold up to a long cellaring, but I am a bit perverse in that I like my wines young. — 3 months ago
Wine group dinner (SJOS), a ton of wines and great conversations with no time for detailed notes. There were notes of dried figs, candied cherries, hazelnuts, leather, and chocolate. Very nice long finish. Happy I have a few bottles in my cellar — 3 months ago

Red fruit but the savory side of it; that crayola thing I am a slut for, clay, pipe tobacco, tomato jam, rosewood, incense, savory herbs and developed red fruit on the palate. They say you can only have this kind n Rhode Island but I feel like some Italians can have it too. Delish. — 8 days ago
