Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2012 “Bacigalupi Vineyard” pours a deep, slightly cloudy, garnet color with a translucent core, moving out to a watery rim. Medium+ viscosity with very light staining of the tears and some signs of light sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with ripe and dried black and red fruits along with black pepper, green herbs, damp forest floor, decomposing woody elements, and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This was tasted alongside the 2012 Hallberg-Dijon and, while a bit more interesting (gotta be some whole cluster happening), it’s also showing its age and the structure is showing signs of spalling. If you haven’t tried this, you really should. It possesses focus and bold acidity. Oak treatment is just a light touch. Perfect sweet finish of lemon curd. It’s not the typical Bacigalupi signature, but the price is absolutely right. — 5 months ago
