Wonderful with Lamb and Black bass — 4 months ago

I am a big Mourvèdre fan. This strange little winery out of the Yakima Valley does a pretty decent job. One of the few bottles I can remember with absolutely no vintage year on it. 🤔 . Whatever. However, it is definitely worth the price point of under $20. — 2 years ago
A great substitute for my first choice. Excellent with both the chicken and sea bass entrées. At Patina 250. — 4 years ago
My first of 7 bottles from the 2015 vintage and the ultra close planted Issan vineyard of 5 Hectares planted 9000 vines per Hectare. Rich red fruits with bunchy earthy notes. Not quite as impressive as the 2013 vintage (see previous Delectable notes) which Philip Jones called a freak wine. Medium to full bodied. Lots of fine tannins. Have the remaining bottles every year for the next 6 years. I ended up having the last bottle 175 weeks later on 31st May 2025. This wine was best in its youth and did not develop as hoped. This Issan Cuvée not produced any more under the new French ownership. — 4 years ago
One of the best Chardonnays I’ve had this year. My last bottle of 2017. Will have to try and remember my notes. On the nose a good combination of citrus and Stone fruit aromas with stone fruit having the slight ascendancy. A rich delicious palate showing increased complexity at nearly 10 years. See previous Delectable notes. Probably at its peak. — 2 months ago

Delectable- this is the Estate Chardonnay not the cheaper Gippsland Cuvée. Restrained initially (more Chablis than White Burgundy) but with air it filled out to be more peachy than citrus. Drinking well at 6 years with another 2 plus years in the tank if desired. This shows that Phillip Jones’s expertise with Pinot extends to Chardonnay. — 2 years ago
61% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 9% Petit Verdot
Aging: 20 months in 15% New American Oak
Fermentation: Stainless steel
Alcohol: 14.5%
Acidity: 6.6 g/l
pH: 3.95
Residual sugar: 0g
Solid choice for a cocoa/Espresso and fruit combo. Even though the claim is espresso, it might come across more like cocoa to me. Either way, I do appreciate the combo with fruit. Other claims are cherry and vanilla, which are not as center stage but more background singers of texture to the espresso/cocoa. This is interesting and worthwhile to periodically mix in with oaky blends, yet I prefer oak to cocoa/coffee most of the time. I’m curious if there are other better cocoa/espresso blends out there, but I’ll say this one is well-balanced and I’d gladly return. — 3 years ago
More impressive than the last tasting in August this year. Raspberry, strawberry and other red fruits and a hint of clove. A lovely fresh spicy nose. A light weight plus palate showing sour cherry, muted acid finishing with very fine tannins. Phillip Jones showing his skill with a grape other than Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. Good to drink now or in the next 12 months. — 5 years ago
This is the entry level Cuvée of about 6 Cuvées of Pinot Noir from Bass Phillip. Under the new ownership of Burgundian, Jacques Fourrier, there appears to be less offered of about 4 judging by the 2019 vintage I just purchased a few weeks ago. This had a touch of cloudiness which is not unusual as they bottle unfiltered which contributes to flavour intensity. This had pronounced strawberry notes on nose and palate. Not particularly complex but fruit driven with note of game and very enjoyable. — 5 years ago
Pale crimson, translucent in colour. Will continue if this is accepted. Aromatics of red cherry, beetroot and Sous Bois. Ripe and rich on the palate. All things considered this is a classic Bass Phillip Estate. Still remains one of Australia’s best Pinot Noirs, now under the control of Burgundian, Jacques Fourrier. This wine was made by the founder, Phillip Jones. — 2 months ago
Deep, dark ruby with a suuuper perfumed nose of ripe cherry and crunchy dark plum, with slightly bark notes and maybe even a little mint and balsamic showing in the background. Light medium bodied, with beautiful flavor and well integrated tannin, there’s still SO much energy to this, with strange and fun note of things like pine needles, balsamic, pomegranate, peppery notes and ripe plum, with hints of black mulch and iron integrated throughout. — 5 months ago
See previous Delectable Note for the 2009 vintage from 88 weeks ago. Similar tasting note with a nose of Compost Heap, Sous Bois and dirty red and black cherry. Still a strong core of energy - could go on for another 5 years. Arguably Australia’s greatest Pinot Noir - definitely of Grand Cru quality. A lovely textured medium bodied palate. Only 40 dozen made. Philip Jones said at the time that 2009 was one of his best vintages, although to be honest he has made a few just as good, if not better, since. — 3 years ago
Phillip Jones has sold Bass Phillip to Burgundian winemaker, Jacques Fourrier. The former entry level Cuvée, Crown Prince has gone and replaced by Bin 17K , the ultra high density planting of 17,000 vines per Hectare planted by Jones. The wine had a slight cloudiness which is often a trademark of BP as they are bottled unfiltered. Aromas of Loam, red plum and red cherry with stalky notes. The following night a raspberry note was apparent. A delicious entry level Cuvée, light to medium weight, designed for early drinking. The legacy of Phillip Jones is in good hands. Part of his role is as a consultant for the first 3 years. I will look forward to tasting The Estate in the next few weeks. Tasted another 72 weeks later on 15th February 2023 with consistent notes. Also on 7th April 2023 - most enjoyable with that cloudiness and palate intensity. Had another one on 19th October 2023. Thoroughly enjoyable as always. Great value for the Entry Level BP Pinot. Had the last bottle on 12th November 2024. Quite light. Drinks to its price point. 5 years is its limit. 88 points. — 5 years ago
A little past it’s peak window. This was in Mag. Enjoyed it and found it very similar in style to a Porter Bass but with a bit more weight. — 6 years ago
Bob McDonald

Brief Notes. Dark ruby in colour. Aromatics of dark cherry, herbal notes and compost heap (Sous Bois). A medium to full bodied palate. Finishing with silky tannins and a persistent long finish. Could cellar this for another 6 to 10 years. 98 points from James Halliday. — 21 days ago
