Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Medium Ruby with quite wide garnet rim. More truffle , tobacco , violet , cassis and earthy notes. Takes a bit of time to get going and certainly shows a bit more age than the 2009. On the palate, more austere with dryer tannin than the 2009 , but very well balanced and classic in style . Cassis, blackcurrant , tobacco graphite notes . Some dry spices too . Quite fresh acidity , and slightly gritty tannin. Long , saline, graphite tinged finish. This is showing some development , but will improve further over the next 5 possibly 10 years and hold well a further 5-10 — 3 days ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1999

Medium ruby , quite wide garnet , terracotta rim . Quite spiced tobacco , red focused sous bois , warm spice , coffee and cacao , a little foursquare , rustic perhaps . On the palate better , quite juicy and rounded , spiced red plum , dark cherry , dry spice . This becomes more saline with time in the glass, balanced acidity and some slightly gritty tannins. This is probably in the middle of its drinking window , and will remain here over the next 5-10 years perhaps. Within the context of Haut Brion , this perhaps is just a little below par . — 3 days ago

On the palate quite dry , cassis , sous bois and grafite touches . Balanced alcohol with slightly dry tannin . Slightly short, but balanced enough and in a good place now . Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1981

I never would have anticipated drinking my birth year of Cheval Blanc out of a Solo cup yet, here we are. The ‘81 is ruddy still; deep garnet color with some browning towards the rim and loads of sediment. The nose shows some of the telltale green-ness of vintage but everything has found harmony: the fruit has blossomed and structure has integrated. Dark fruited with tobacco, dried purple flowers, mushrooms, herbs and soft eastern spices. Charming! No particular rush to drink these but lovely now. — 7 hours ago

Château Rauzan-Ségla

Margaux Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

2012 vintage. Dark red with little evolution. Black fruits in a tight, but velvety tannic structure. Impressive depth for the vintage. Drinking well, but I believe it will still improve with further bottle age. Abv. 13,5%. — 7 days ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2002

Medium ruby , quite wide garnet rim, clear and bright . Cassis , blackberry , sous bois , mint , cedar , grafite , good clarity and surprisingly fruit driven still . Good volume on the palate , dark fruits , mint , good acidity and still quite gritty tannins. Saline and grafite tinged finish . Good length . Drinking very well now and over the next 5 years . For 2002 this is showing very well, classic and surprisingly elegant, a really nice surprise! — 3 days ago
