Beyond Ordinary

Beyond the Clouds Alto Adige Bianco Chardonnay Blend 2021

Interesting blend of mostly Chardonnay adding Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, medium vibrant lemon yellow color, with aromas of complex fruits, nutty and floral notes. On the palate flavors of pineapple, apricot and citrus with cinnamon, honey and floral spice. Long finish ending creamy with juicy fruit, almonds, citrus and mineral notes. Will age a bit, but nice now! — 8 days ago

Dominus Estate

Dominus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1990

Not what I was hoping for,
Gave it some air but not too much so that we didn’t lose the sweet spot. Didn’t touch the Shafer until this was finished. Just a typical older Bordeaux blend from Napa but very ordinary considering the price point. Secondary market purchase so who knows prior storage.

Bummer. Picked up some 1991, 2006 and 2019 Dominus recently. As always, cautiously optimistic.

I still have 6 bottles of 18, still not fit for drinking. I figured out of most of Napa that Heitz, Dominus & BV GLT would be the ones to go with in 1990 vintage.
I’m 1 for 2 so far

Penfolds

Bin 28 Kalimna South Australia Shiraz 2007

Penfolds reds like this age at glacial pace even from a not so great vintage like 2007. Not much change after 5 years. Red and black fruits- choc/mocha - good concentration - tannins starting to soften after 18 years. Could keep cellaring up to 2030 and beyond. — 7 months ago

Fontanafredda

Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

Figs, balsamic, and pepper on the nose. Depth and character on the palate that goes beyond the initial impressions. Let it open a bit. — 5 years ago

Domaine Leroy

Bourgogne Chardonnay 2016

Maison Leroy’s entry-level white, 100% Chardonnay sourced from different vineyards in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Savigny-lès-Beaune. Subtle, aromatic nose with white fruits, citrus, floral notes and hints of vanilla. Fresh, mineral, great texture. No ordinary Buegundy — 2 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Full bodied nice and dry but a taste that is beyond a regular cab. Smooth and an exquisite grape that leaves the pallet wanting more! Love it!! — 4 years ago
