Taylor Reserve Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

From the collection. Wish I would have drank about six months ago, it’s started to mellow out a bit more than I expected. — 8 months ago

The Crossing Carignan Blend 2017

9.2

Dark ruby coloration. On the nose, sweet blueberry and vanilla, currant and toasted oak. Hints of Creme brûlée. On the palate, medium- full bodied with a nice richness and body to it. Blueberry, dark berry and vanilla with forest floor, oak and must. Long finish of the same. Very nice blend. — 4 years ago

Bear Crossing Knight Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Solid, well-made Cabernet Sauvignon. Strong and bold but not overwhelming. Deep, brooding fruit. Not remarkable but a reasonable purchase at $53. — 3 months ago

Juniper Estate

Juniper Crossing Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2017

Bought this as an afterthought and quite pleased that I did. It's complex and rich, with blackcurrant/plum fruit, cedary oak and soft tannins all on the same page. Great value. — 3 years ago

Bodegas Volver

Single Vineyard Tempranillo 2016

This is one of my go to pizza wines. Incredible value. Like 16 bucks around here.

Winemakers' Cellar Dry Creek Valley Chardonnay 2018

First thing: much earthier than I anticipated. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of ripe fruit: lemon 🍋, pineapple 🍍, and apricot 🍑. But before the fruit, there’s smoky minerality 💨 and dried thyme 🌱 followed by hazelnut. 🌰

Charles Krug

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Excellent... But it's interesting to compare this to #1 tonight--- Faust..both 2016 Napa cabs. Faust was $52, Krug $29. So what's the difference? A lot, you be the judge if it's worth 23 bucks. Take the Faust, and remove the blackberry, leaving a greenish-pine alcohol warmed bouquet. Take the spherical mouth of Faust and shave it such that you have angular, sharp edges. Then Krug ends with a dryer, perfumed drying tannins.

So, this is an excellent wine, about 1.5 points below the Faust. So make your own calculation, but to me, I'd spend the money for the upgrade.
