Aurora

Vin de Montagne Cabernet Franc 2018

2018 vintage. Another great effort from this tiny estate that started out as a hobby for oncologist Fady Geara. This beautiful monovarietal Cabernet Franc is produced from vineyards in the village of Aoura, in Northern Lebanon, at 850 meters of altitude. Intense perfume of black and red fruits, oriental spices, mint, and a hint of vanilla. Layers of concentrated juicy fruit and spices, balanced by fresh mountain wine acidity and velvety tannins. Long, fresh finish. Highly recommended. Abv. 14 %. — 5 months ago

Aurora Oloroso Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Palomino Fino

Cigar, smoke, and fig, slightly aromatic, with an acidic and bitter finish. Not my favorite on its own (prefer a smoother, semi-sweet sherry) but balanced and smoothed out when paired with a smoked and aged Gouda and Cheddar cheese. — 6 months ago

Ponzi Vineyards

Aurora Vineyard Chardonnay 2014

Tom Elliot
9.5

Great wine but be aware that it’s still very young. Not a typical Ponzi single vineyard Chardonnay, it’s still strong, greasy, reductive aroma and flavors are reminiscent of many a modern Cote de Beaune. Powerful, complex, detailed, earthy. Decant and aerate if drinking now but better still to cellar at least another 5 years. I’m projecting it will age gracefully for 25 years or more. — 4 years ago
