Beautiful light, but complex, red. Delicate and interesting. On the nose, if you concentrate, there’s marzipan under everything. Enjoy with light, citrusy foods. Ceviche, for example. As well as anything with a light dusting of orange zest. — 3 years ago

Unscrew and pour. On the nose: green tinged, a touch of dissolved CO2, lime, loads of mineral.notes. On the palate: excellent acidity, good density, lime, wet stone...not so complex, but excellent with ceviche. — 3 years ago

@Delectable Wine: This is the Majolini 1981 Franciacorta Brut. I didn’t see it in the database.

My knowledge base around Franciacorta is minimal, so when seeing this available, I jumped on it.

2016 vintage. 90/10 chard/Pinot. 3yrs on the lees. I still haven’t found a perfect correlation between bubble size and region, but this was another case where the bubbles were slightly larger than most champagnes. Bright with great texture. Comes across as a nice US Cali sparkler…not much yeast, but plenty of ripe yellow fruit, honeycomb, and an airy sea breeze type flair. While not powerful or complex sparkler, it’s not a simple one either. Worked well with ceviche and arancini. — 2 years ago
