Meursault Chardonnay 2017

Rich style from a vintage made for whites! Champagne beurre Blanc, grilled pineapple, lemon panna cotta, brioche soaked in olive oil, magnolia, honeysuckle, yuzu, mirin, and noshi pear give it a Japanese aspect; ginkgo follows mold. Creamy mouthfeel kept honest by nice acid and lime padding with pith the pile lining. Lemon oil, lemon panna cotta and beurre blanc soaked brioche complete the picture from a stellar wine!

Liberty Bell Ringer

An 8.7abv pounder seems like a contender for bell ringing. Let’s see if this Big Philly number has the clapper, and is all it’s cracked up to be. The judges are looking for a big freedom ringing ding-and-a-dong before they bestow the bejeweled belt. Pale aspect, though sinewy. Platinum flattop. Is this Dolph Lundgren (on the DL)? Does that make me the Italian S-T-A-L-L-I-O-N mang? Some know where I’m go-ween with this. Wealth of the ‘Delph. Ridge over space pods lacing where the pods spill downward in the unctuous tears of muscle sweat. Juicy grapefruit nose, tinged with a little octane, oranges, lemons, and limes; all parts. Soft butterscotch parts, too.. Dried tropical mango, pineapple and just a bit of ginkgo fruit bruised in the knees. Gorgeous mouthfeel. All the classic beer elements share the stairs here! Candied trio of citrus peels here: lemon, orange, grapefruit, and touches of caramel apple. Not a long finish, but a hard fought TKO in the end! .

Vieilles Vignes Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay 2020

Softest golden straw with glints of green gold. Hint of gunpowder melts to reveal a pudding-soft, dried lychee which peels away to white roses, citrus pith and avocado cloud glistening with flintlock shavings in ginkgo shade. Extraordinary palate leans hard into a soft wall of olive, evaporating lemon oils, cottonseed oil, and lime nodules. Tangerine-pear impossibilities flower, riveting the tongue with pithy, zesty, and blossoming evocations. Ginger, tea and nano bits of Wrigley’s original juicy fruit.

Revolution Weinviertel Chardonnay Blend

Day 1: beeswax, almost-burnt toast, Granny Smith apples, Parmesan tang and ginkgo that comes and goes on the nose. Acid on the nose. Spice on the front of the mouth, like cayenne, soft pears or red skinned soft fleshed apples, lemon juice minerals. Like a champagne without the bubbles. Not super long, but interesting.

It kind of tastes like one of those lemon cayenne cleansing drinks, but super refined.

Day 2: like a strange mix between the honeyed notes of a Chenin with the citric acidity of Chardonnay and Riesling. It calmed down a bit and became more electric, like putting it through a tube compressor.

50% Chardonnay partially fermented (carbonic) in amphora followed by co-fermentation with Scheurebe, and blended with Riesling from a solera of vintages 2013-2015 aged in used wood, unfined, unfiltered with no sulfur added.

Grand Vin de Bourgogne Pouilly-Fuisse Chardonnay 2008

A touch musty, with lemon and tangerine below. Lemon verbena, citrus pith pudding and dried limestone make this steely, coconut and charcoal dust sea wind take on interesting tastes. Like an ocean-soaked lime-in-brine over driftwood. Additional smells of lychee and ginkgo emerge with added depth and dried bamboo scents. The palate has sprouted green olive and caper notes. Still alive and staying there. #pouillyfuissé

2017. Soft lemon verbena and lemon panna -cotta notes; hint of lychee, lime zest and white pepper, but geared up on a cocktail of grapefruit and grenadine, with ginkgo fruit. Plush, lush and round nose. Lemon lime juices and zests waver between racy and ripe. Lemon pith is the lining. Tight and green in many ways but very enjoyable now!

Ginkgo smash rot blows off to wildflower honey and brioche, tart pineapple, chamomile, yellow apple, ginger nose. Tart starfruit, lemon zest, lime pith, lemon-lime peel; wound a little tight. Lemongrass and a green onion element I expect to vanish. Ginseng and glittering lemon oil and racing pith for a long salivating finish. Opened rich and unctuous, but narrowed to focused acid blast.
