Col Di Luna

Col Solare

Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Deep purple in color with a purplish/ reddish rim.

Fruity nose of black currants, cooked plums, licorice, oak, light vanilla, spices, dark chocolates, herbs, coffee and light earth.

Full-bodied and bold, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, spices and green tea.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain in Washington State. Elegant and fruit forward. Rich and extracted, chewy and spicy. Nicely balanced and complex, with a nice mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours of airtime.

Still young, but already very approachable, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. Aged in all new French oak barrels for 20 months.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$80.

Il Veltro Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2005

Drank last night and don’t remember the full profile but damn good. Good fruit with very subtle to nonexistent tannins. Good length. Last bottle and better than last one opened. Drink 2005 brunellos now. — 6 years ago

Tenuta Col d'Orcia

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2018

Vigna Nastagio. Although the wine was satisfactory, it did not meet my expectations. I had previously had a more enjoyable experience with other vintages. The dominant tannic notes were even noticeable in an 8-year-old wine. — 25 days ago

This is a fantastically fun wine. Drink this in the summer on a breezy evening. Swish each sip and stand outside without your shoes. I felt like the very first drink after opening the bottle, and my glass 5 days later were the best. — 5 months ago

Canto de Luna

Valle de Guadalupe Tempranillo Blend 2022

Characteristic wine from Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico. Expressive dark fruits, spicy, earthy and a jammy edge. Pairs perfectly with the corn, beans and mole in Mexican dishes. No wonder why they call Mexican wines the next Tequila! Want to learn more about wines from Valle de Guadalupe? I’ve had this. It’s good.

Luna Matta & Glen Rose Vineyards Nebbiolo 2006

My last bottle from the defunct yet memorable winery.

Smells so delicious, like a fruit yogurt

This drinks like it is fresh, with blackberry bramble, subtle and unique red fruits tucked behind the leather ones.
Tannins are still very gripping, and the acidity tames it back. A touch of heat and its off to the races!

A bit fleshier than previous vintages. The move to less new oak and less time in oak seems focus the wines here a bit, but the house style of nearly opulent dark fruit remains. — 6 years ago

This is just getting to its drinking window. The nose is a little muted now but the palette is beautiful. Long finish that gets a little oaky, but give that a few more years. Pretty. — 6 years ago

La Luna e i Falo Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2021

Although this isn’t a Barolo, I did drink it there. Close enough as it is from Asti, which was about 20 mins down the road. I mean come on. This was great. Dark fruits like black cherries and reminded me of plums with its taste and its tannins. Had some spice and oak that balanced with the fruit nicely. High acidity but still has a lot of body and depth. Tannins were soft but present. Felt like a polished and serious wine that was excellent alongside our “piedmontese” meal. — 4 months ago

Hot damn. Delicious. Jeff like you would expect with a CA cab, but a counterpoint in the raspberry/strawberry blossom flavors… a totally lovely and balanced red, aged to perfection — 8 months ago

Zinfandel

Smells of plum and blackberries, thyme, and leather. Medium-high acid, medium body, high tannins. Bright cherry, juicy. Doesn't have the same heavy smokey quality that weighs fine many zinfandels. — 6 years ago
