Great suggestion for Foggy evening. — 7 years ago
Deep red with steely dark fruit, notes of smoke and dry foggy tannins. Good mid level Merlot/Cab blend from SE, Bordeaux. 89+ — 8 years ago
SLH without too much explanation is a premier site for Pinot Noir and Chard. But like Napa/Sonoma and Santa Barbara the similar theme is we're finding more grape varietals to diversify ourselves because of how great our weather is and generally our love of many options. Roar is a local leader of quality wines, if you're looking for an SLH example of the good stuff.. here you go.
Went on a cool personal tour of some vineyards at the winery and tried some wine after. This is a newer vineyard for them, high elevation grown Viognier (10 years). Keep in mind this is a foggy climate versus most other Viognier climates. Rich peaches outweigh the honeydew melon fruit for an ideal balance of fruit I'd prefer. I think an edge to this wine is some minerality I usually find clouded from old world veen. Also out here we're in our 2nd or 3rd year in a row of very cold summers and cold spring/fall. It's really what I imagine Seattle to be because most days I just get overcast with my beach view😂 I look forward to a very warm SLH year; this will wake up the locals. — 9 years ago
Sour, funky, and texturally pleasing. It was a light orange color, foggy and viscous, but still very light. Good wine — 9 years ago

Winery notes as follows,
Doctor's Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands
This particular vineyard is an east facing sweeping shelf of eroded sandy loam soil, which is buffeted by cool, semi foggy winds every afternoon.
The benefits to growing great Pinot Noir in this area is that the soils are well drained, allowing the vines to focus on maturing the fruit, while the coolness of the afternoon winds extends the growing season. With the additional time on the vine, the fruit develops big bold flavors and a fuller, hardier structure than most other areas growing Pinot. Deep fruit, darker color are consistent attributes to this vineyard, and that is why we appreciate all the hard work done by the Hahn Estate to deliver us superior fruit every year. — 6 years ago

A. Fine. Pinot. Noir. 2011 Thorn Ridge opened June 21st, 2017. Lov-ly. Floral mushroom, cool climate delicate fresh tanned leather. There's an herbal note that is that 6th gear in a 5 gear race car. The still present tannin structure fades gently. This is serious shit people. This wine makes the argument that cold, foggy, Burgundian-style summers make. The. Finest. Pinot. Noir. — 9 years ago

Toasted in 2022 in Ocean City MD with just us, after witnessing a wet soggy foggy fireworks show from quite far and keeping social distancing. Yes that balanced yeasty toasty taste which went well with food next night. Excellent value. — 4 years ago
Davis Bynum 2017 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir! This is a beautiful wine. Its so easy to drink you almost forget your drinking wine. The bouquet is simply cherry juice. The palate begins with dark cherries, raspberries, and ripe Macintosh apples. Then comes the spice and an almost vanilla emotion. The mildly dry finish delivers hints of oak and smoke lingering on the palate. YUMMY! And for about 25 dollars a bottle! You can not beat this wine. Go Sonoma County Russian River Valley! Its those cold foggy and windy nights that make this pinot so fantastic. — 6 years ago
Cloudy, foggy brownish red.
Smell: not super floral. A tiny bit of green peppers.
Initial Taste is super intense. A bit bundled up. A bit dark and some dryness. Good fruit. But this isn’t as good as the last melbury I had right off the bat. Definitely was disappointed.
Initial taste is 9.1 — 8 years ago
Now is the time to drink this! 30 min in... Foggy wet mossy soil, overripe cherries lots of acidity still. So well made & love this family! — 9 years ago

The difference 40 years makes is maybe just a thin wooly blanket.
Pull it back and this thing's full of life - bright, vibrant, gas in the tank.
It’s brighter yellow than tired gold. Theres more fruit than decay. Sour apricots and yellow canned peaches, white popcorn and greasy bacon, and that foggy musk.
Acid rips through and does not give. Barely sweet with the demi-sec tag thats written right there but I'm not buying it.
Tonight this is 40 years old, just gettin' goin, just like me. — a year ago
