Inky color. Aroma of lush berries and sweet plums. Big big bouquet! Big plums and soft berries up front. A slightly sweet dry plum finish. Not a dry fruit bomb but a smooth plum — 3 years ago
2019 opened September ‘24. Unusual nose — briars and turmeric. The light red fruits on the front are quickly subsumed by a complex wave of tannins. I detect dark chocolate in the base notes. Orange zest in the high notes. There’s some other stuff happening in the initial tannic rush that I can’t identify, but they’re yummy. These desperate elements are held together by an initially soft tannic structure — but a stronger mineral component starts at the back of the mid pallet and it provides a long tasty finish.
Personally, I think it was best right out of the bottle. After the first glass, I let it open up for an hour, and it got a little less interesting as some of the.subtleties disappeared — but still very tasty! That suggests to me that it might not hold up to a long cellaring, but I am a bit perverse in that I like my wines young. — 2 months ago
Taken to Bicyclette in Carmel. Gave it 5 hrs in a decanter. Dark but bright red color. Amazing nose. Notes of black and red fruit, slate stone, spice, menthol and dark soil. Perfect balance of fruit, structure and acidity in the mouth. Tannins mostly softened. This was in the zone. Easily had 10-15 more years of peak enjoyment in front of it. Bravo! — 2 years ago
My first #chateaumusar - taciturn black fruit, cassis, sous bois on the nose. Palate with conspicuous acidity up front, sturdy tannins mid-palate on the finish. Delicious wine now but easily could cruise 10 to 15 years longer. Fascinating 50% #cinsault 40% #grenache 10% #cabernetsauvignon — a year ago
2004 at Easter 2022. Color very good. Decanted and drunk. Just some fine sediment. Strong fruit on the front though a bit short and drying on the back. Nice wine with still some structure and a good food complement. — 3 years ago
