The Giovanni Sordo holdings in the Gabutti MGA are directly west and northwest of Cappellano’s. They have been bottling a single-vineyard expression of Gabutti since 1982.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2021 “Gabutti” pours a beautiful ruby color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of Morello cherry, orange peel, a room of freshly cut roses, talcum powder, some cedar and dry organic earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose though, it took about 30min of air to reflect that continuity. The finish is long. This is quite a lovely wine; I’m impressed! Silly value. Drink now with patience through 2046+. — 10 hours ago

This is a really tasty Roero Arneis that has green apple and floral notes on the nose. The flavors come through to the palate where lemon notes and a crunchy minerality emerge. The finish has a bitter saline quality with apple notes that linger on the palate. Really tasty. Med/full bodied with med/high acidity. — a month ago

Dark garnet color with some brown highlights and slightly orange rim. Aromas of dried red fruit, forest floor, leather and a touch of menthol. Flavors of dried plum and black cherry fruit, dark chocolate, black licorice, beef jerky and roasted nuts. Plentiful baking spice notes on the long and grippy finish. Quite dense with firm tannins. This is a pleasant nebbiolo that I see pairing well with a lot of pasta dishes. Overall, this wine has very scrumptious red fruit flavors with settled tannins that balance the fresh acidity really well. It’s a translucent, pale red that’s medium bodied with scents of cherry, rose, and leather. Primarily it’s the cherry that comes through on the palate. The fine grained tannins transition to black tea notes and cherry on the finish. The fruit on the finish quickly disappears. — 8 months ago
