It was big and stung a bit on the palate but the fruit had extraordinary purity. Almost amarone-like in sweetness and intensity.

Hoffman Dallwitz Little Wine IV Syrah

A rich plush Barossa Shiraz. Full bodied plum and berry flavours. A lovely fluid supple palate, the product of old vine fruit. Looking through my notes I see I have had Little Wine #2 #3 #5 and #6 but somehow missed this #4 Multi vintage comprising 2012 at 17%; 2013 at 44% and 2014 at 39%. All good years in the Barossa although Fraser would say some were more difficult than others. Vine age ranges from the 1990s with the oldest planted prior to 1912. Rich and delicious. — 6 years ago

Greg Hobbs made a palate and a half. He was going to label it and got distracted making other wines. Recently found his palate and a half of 2011 and just released it. Good warm up to the tasting. — 8 years ago

St Andrews Single Vineyard Release Shiraz 2009

Deep crimson in colour. Lashings of black currant and a hint of prune on nose and palate. If tasted blind I would pick this as Barossa over the Clare Valley. Sweet and full bodied on the palate. At its peak but could go on for a few years. — 5 years ago

Deep garnet red with ruby hues. Took some time to open up on the nose with cigar, cedar, plums, anise, herbal and some spices. Well rounded with solid acidity, medium tannins (5.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Aged plate with dark plums, cigars and some some herbs. Long finish. Drink till 2022. — 6 years ago

Tango Shiraz Viognier 2013

9.2

Greg Hobbs featured opening wine for us at The Artisans of Barossa. This is his Tango for the two grapes in the blend...Shiraz and Viognier. The two make for an excellent wine that just kept dancing better and better as they opened up. Greg was a Police Officer for 10 years before buying property in Barossa. Quite a transition! Greg's property right next to Chris Ringland's. — 8 years ago

Killerman's Run Clare Valley Shiraz 2016

Really beautiful, feminine Shiraz. Not as full body or powerful as Barossa: brighter fruit with smooth undertones of pepper. — 6 years ago

1905 Shiraz 2014

A profound young Shiraz from vines planted 112 years ago in Barossa and made by Chris Ringland from low yields. The “1905” has a distinct eucalyptus thread in its flavor profile, dense chewy blue and black fruit, soy, Asian spices. The Hobbs wine dinner was an unexpected treat. My business partner asked if I wanted to go to a Paul Hobbs wine dinner and I said “Hell yeah I like Dr. Crane”....turns out Hobbs is run by Greg and Allison Hobbs. An extremely cool couple who moved to the country with their kids for a simpler life in the mid 90’s. Greg is a former SWAT team officer and fireman and he has a palpable passion for his wines. This was far and away my favorite of the night. — 7 years ago
