Hyde De Villaine

Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

After 2 oxidized bottles, nice to know there are good bottles as well. This one is really good, and even better at day 2. — a day ago

Nice, but I detect this this is on it’s downward swing. Roasted pineapple combines with lychees. soft acidity and baking spices complete a nice presentation. probably better 2 years prior. — a month ago

Wow, not what I expected for ‘18…

@John Van Trijp, yes, I was a little surprised, too. Having said that, I’ve had very few underperforming bottles from Aubert.

@LM Segal, in general, U.S. whites or reds rarely posses the longevity of their Burgundy counterparts. I have a number of old Cali whites which I will road-test for S and G’s.

Hyde De Villaine

[Tasted on July 27, 2024 at l’Ete du Vin with Ned and Beth]

Apricot, apple, and citrus fruit, with nice minerality. Silky and well balanced.

Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

The Hyde Vineyard is like a Cathedral for Chardonnay. Merely tasting Chardonnay from this site, sought after by California wine making royalty becomes and extraordinary experience. Hobbs and Ramey have taken California Chardonnay to new highs with fruit derived from this soil. This example is no exception, with a good seven years of aging, the wine has developed deep nuances like nutty and brioche notes which soften as the wine breaths. Finish is long and refreshing with abundant citrus. Cheers. — 22 days ago

Hyde Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

Double decant and pour. A striking dark ruby red color. On the nose: brambly cherry, forest floor, raspberry, clove, dried herbs. Taste: smooth, creamy, rich, juicy wine with sweet cherry, cedar, orange rind, earth, and a peppery strawberry medium finish. YUM! — 2 months ago

Rothwell Hyde Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

This wine is inky dark and almost black. It’s a meal.

Needs food and a dense pairing. We had chili

Whomever said this needs airtime is dead on. I gassed this with oxygen and let it breathe for 2 hours and it still was just beginning to show its fruit at the tail end.

I would aerate and give a solid 3-4 hour decant next time.

Hyde Vineyards

Estate Pinot Noir 2018

Did a nice tasting at Hyde Vineyards in June this year. Color is a cross between ruby red and garnet. Nose - Brambly cherry, cloves, dried herbs and secondary notes of earth vanilla and slight raspberry. Taste - has a smooth and silky feel. Red cherry fruit, brambly herbs, and cedar are the initial notes followed by secondary notes of orange rind, pepper and strawberry that add to its medium plus finish. — 2 months ago
