I might confused this wine with southern Pino Noir or Nebbiolo from sandy soils. Highly mineral to the nose, silicon burnt grass, gum and strawberry and a lot of fruits. Good tannins , very well balanced and have a potential to grow. Old vines (100yr ) and lava soils, French oak malolactics , fermentation. Vanilla and allspice in secondary fragrances. — 8 years ago

Enjoyed setting up the Christmas tree -December 2016 — 10 years ago
This one has fleshed out nicely over the last 2 years, showing better balance and integration of flavors. Acidity has become more mellow. Nose of lava/asphalt/petrol and grilled lemon. Very mineral, earthy, and austere on the palate as well. Lemony, smoky and salty finish. Almost like a shot of tequila…! 🌵 🍋 🧂

Peppery, bright, not too tannic. Love it — 8 years ago
One first noticed it’s luminous and trasparent ruby-red...
...the sweetness and generosity of wild fruits and currants merges with aromas of incense and beeswax and a light almost salty touch invites one to return to one’s glass, creating an almost provoking temptation to taste...
...once in mouth, the 100% Nerello Mascalese from lava sands presents its tasting strength and extraordinary aromas of incense and herbs, hibiscus, and wild fennel.
It’s a luminous and lyrical wine which recounts without obstacles the character and refinement of great red mountain wines but at latitudes not far from Africa....
The elegant tannins of compact texture are presented with extraordinary refinement. — 9 years ago

Cool label. Vine drawing. Strange unknown Italian varietal. Dark as night in the glass. Can’t see through it. Lovely stewed fruits and molasses nose. Hint of wet rocks. Forest streams. Flavors are complex and complex. Some black pepper. Bit of black olive. Streak of perfect blackberry jelly. Tannins are balanced. Smooth, but full of dense flavors. This is a great big boy red that’s a joy to drink. — 4 months ago
