Cool label. Vine drawing. Strange unknown Italian varietal. Dark as night in the glass. Can’t see through it. Lovely stewed fruits and molasses nose. Hint of wet rocks. Forest streams. Flavors are complex and complex. Some black pepper. Bit of black olive. Streak of perfect blackberry jelly. Tannins are balanced. Smooth, but full of dense flavors. Consistent notes from February 2019. Molasses Caramel etc and ultra smooth. A top quality rum from Nicaragua. Great minerality from all the old lava flows in that country where the sugar cane grows. 18 years old. — 6 years ago

Like a volcanic barbera. These can be tannic but five years of bottle age has smoothed the edges somewhat. Not that giving of the bat but evolves with charcoal, lava stones, spices and green olives. — 7 years ago

I might confused this wine with southern Pino Noir or Nebbiolo from sandy soils. Highly mineral to the nose, silicon burnt grass, gum and strawberry and a lot of fruits. Good tannins , very well balanced and have a potential to grow. Old vines (100yr ) and lava soils, French oak malolactics , fermentation. Vanilla and allspice in secondary fragrances. — 8 years ago

Fun volcanic wine. The scent and taste is not Reductive, it is sulphur, from volcanic soil, not oxygen deprived production. Think of sun baked black lava rocks. Clean sulphur dominate mineral with saline notes. Reductive would be more noxious rubber hose and burnt match. Serve lightly chilled, and think of Sherry or Jura. Instead of briny olive notes in a sherry, the salty herbal note of the wine is more Celery (which pairs well, especially on the first day on the finish). The fruit is soft and ripe, secondary to mineral, and in the category of golden raisin (without the raisin). Color is a solid gold, at purchase I believe it was pale lemon. Drink now, or possibly hold additional 4 years for more sherry-like notes.
