Juicy, sappy, polished, delicious.
Pure dark cherry with a pinch of dried herbs and a nice mineral backdrop. Nice depth, too.
Polished tannins, juicy acidity and purity of fruit on the palate. After 8h secant this shines yet in ‘16 the Radici shines brighter.

Procede molto bene. L’alcol si è definitivamente equilibrato. Il tannino è ancora prorompente, deve maturare. L’acidità è ancora vivida e promettente. Il bouquet è incredibile, stemperato l’alcol ora c’è spazio a tutto e di più. Un finale amaro di polvere di cacao liquirizia radici. L’attacco del bouquet è intenso e molto complesso. Prugna, anice stellato, ciliegie, more in confettura, mirtilli. In bocca è inteso e incredibilmente persistente. Lunghissimo. Da conversazione meditata. A distanza di 6 anni dalla vendemmia è un vino eccellente. Può solo migliorare a dismisura. È fondamentale caraffarlo o decantarlo o ossigenarlo. — 5 years ago

Un bellissimo colore intenso rubino porpora vivace.  Al naso esce subito l’intensità e le spezie finissime di immensa e inesorabile eleganza un ventaglio aromatico complesso in cui il frutto non è mai coperto dalla spezia ed è in un equilibrio maniacale.  identificare tutti i descrittori è impresa dura talmente è elevata la complessità. Al naso si percepisce anche una scia sapida minerale iodato. Il bouquet si apre rapidamente e si distende adagiandosi su un fondale marino. Radici e balsamico, avvolgente. In bocca un esplosione, un tannino bello, potente, che sa dove andare. La pianta sta esprimendo tutta se stessa che più non può! L’immensa avvolgenza e morbidezza è all’improvviso interrotta nel finale ammandorlato, che crea un nuovo livello di suggestione e riprepara l’anima ad inoltrarsi sempre di più dentro se stessa. Cola, china, liquirizia. Un l’attacco leggermente pungente al palato, sulla punta della lingua una leggera morbidezza che si dipana avvolgendo tutta la bocca con il suo tannino. Ed eccoci di nuovo ancora al finale, che questa volta prende un tratto agrumato quasi di twist di scorza d’arancia e poi di un nuovo l’ammandorlato che ci invita inesorabilmente alla riscoperta di noi stessi, con un nuovo sorso. The first time I tried this one I thought it was cooked and it turns out I am probably correct. This second bottle was absolutely amazing. The first smell gave me elements of tobacco in tar. You could smell the smoke ear itching stickiness of like a fresh paved Road or old cigar stubs. After that there was a second layer of cherry. it was incredible. it wasn't like a sour cherry so much as it was a maraschino cherry. There was the third and final layer of milk chocolate that was a perfect balance of the first two. Imagine eating an amazing chocolate covered Cherry while smoking a Maduro cigar at a gas station and that's exactly what you have. Musical most comforting feeling to it. This is something you should want to drink by yourself curled up with a good book or with a good movie on. My only problem is that it comes off is almost stopped and off balance or amateurish version of the mastroberedino radici. The alcohol is a little bit too prominent on the back end and I would like to see it aged a bit more I think this one would be about 5 times better in about 5 years. Also I would like to have seen a slightly Fuller body. I purchase this wine for about 19.99 and I have to say I'd go with high as about $28 for this bottle. — 10 years ago

Popped and poured into red Solo cups. The 1997 “Radici” Riserva pours a garnet color with a near opaque core and a slightly orange rim; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe, tart, and some desiccated fruit: Montmorency cherry, plum, licorice, smoked meat, balsamico, a mix of organic and inorganic earth, exotics spices and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tanning and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and earthy. This was quite the departure from the Napa wines surrounding it but made a statement. Drink now through 2037. — 9 months ago

Barbera d’Asti DOCG from second generation of the Buganza family. Organic property, minimal intervention wines. Fruit and earth- dark cherry, plum, blackberry, dried brush, dried herbs, old leather; a blast of fresh M+ acidity followed by slightly rustic M tannins mingle in a balanced fashion on a medium finish. It has the structure to hang out a few more years yet drinking delightfully now. A producer/property I’d love to visit, they’ve got a productive little ecosystem (fruits, vegetables) and a skin contact Arneis. — 5 years ago

This sangio/cab blend is exquisite! Bright red fruit dominates (strawberries and ripe raspberries), but oak tannins and a spicy tobacco finish play nicely off the fruit explosion. Yum!! — 8 years ago
