Legend Of The Vine

Bedrock Wine Co.

Old Vine Zinfandel 2023

This is a lovely old vine Zinfandel from various vineyards Bedrock sources their juice from, smooth, balanced, long finish, but a great example of what not to serve AFTER a Bedrock single vineyard wine (like the 2023 Old Hill Heritage we just finished), I’m happy to open this any day of the week, but the comparison is stark! — a day ago

Phantom Old Vine California Zinfandel Blend 2011

I have a cold, but it has a strong, yet enjoyable flavor. I like how dark of a wine it is. — 4 months ago

Cakebread Cellars

Vine Hill Ranch Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Cherry, vanilla, black berry.. on sweeter end of a cab. I know there are finer wines out there, but cake bread has consistently been some of my favorite wine for years now. I always look forward to a package when it arrives! — 8 months ago

7 Deadly Zins Old Vine Lodi Zinfandel 2019

Unlike my memory of zinfandels on the beach in California, but quite compelling. Almost bitter, yet dark and soothing. Chocolate is like that. — 3 years ago

Bedrock Wine Co.

Ode to Lulu California Old Vine Rosé Blend

Total sleeper: while the label simply says ‘Syrah’, the reality in the making of it is that it’s a co-fermentation of 85% Syrah from some of Bedrock’s prized vineyards and (about) about 15% Viognier. And man does it work- particularly for the price.

Big polished and showing a hint of heat. Happily the oak isn’t too pronounced. For me this baby needs time. — 3 months ago

Broc Cellars

Vine Starr Sonoma County Zinfandel 2024

End of my Broc holiday shipment. Light and very tart zin. Blackberry, plum, and craisins. A bit of earthy spiciness, and faint char on the nose. 12.5% abv. With Gouda and mini toasts. One last indulgence before going back to the daily grind. — 8 months ago

Gnarly Head

Old Vine Zin Lodi Zinfandel 2018

Barnyard nose, with very little fruit. Flavor bomb! Luscious red cherry, cedar, spicy, super smooth, and not a hint of tannins. Amazing for 10 bucks. — 6 years ago

Black Saint Peter

Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel 2023

I liked the uncharacteristic subtle sweetness from plum and dark fruits. Add a touch of leather and vanilla, soft tannins, and this one was smooth. Good stuff! — 6 months ago

Rippon Vineyard

Mature Vine Lake Wanaka Pinot Noir 2010

This was rich and delicious. It was fair enough for Suckling to pose the question “Is this the best NZ Pinot so far”? Ticks all the requisite boxes - ripe red and black fruits, a creamy texture, a nice garrigue herbal note. This Pinot lives up to the gorgeous site - one of the most awesome views you will see from the top of the vineyard over Lake Wanaka. Most impressive. — 8 months ago

Sceales Vineyard Old Vine Grenache

Seventy-five plus year vines make me happy. Plenty of acidity balanced by lean, yet round, tannins. Savory raspberries and cherries with rhubarb and a little bay leaf. Yum! — 6 years ago
