Les Balcons Du Rhône

E. Guigal

Côtes du Rhône Red Rhône Blend 2021

Wine 6 of my birthday blind tasting. A good old guigal to finish it up 😊 always a success. I called côtes du Rhône ✌️
The nose was a bit muted at first but then these unmistakable garrigue and black olive notes kicked in. There is blackberry and cherry notes too. The palate shows a good acid drive, some savoury notes along with blackberry, some width, a good tannic wall in the rear that leaves a drying layer over a long rather savoury and salty finish with black olives and blackberry notes. It's as always, a great option. I will have another glass with lunch, roasted duck and veggies will get along quite well with it.

Mon Coeur Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend 2022

A. R.
8.9

Great base-level CdR from the negociant side of Chave. Floral and high toned fruit on the nose, red fruit and a bit of pepper on the finish. Some good typical spice. Decent finish. Slightly high alcohol. Probably has some upside with aging. — a day ago

La Turque Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2013

Tasting the 2013 La Las this was the weakest of the three. A good wine but not great and lacking in wow factor. Probably too young but more bla bla than la la at the moment. — 17 days ago

Domaine Jamet

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2021

Okay this wine was amazingly delicious but was undoubtedly quite young in this present moment.

There is so much more potential to unveil over time.

It has concentrated plum, fig, red currant, pomegranate, boysenberry notes next to licorice, meat, earth, peat, clove notes. Tannins and acidity are firm.

With time, we anticipate edges will be soften and complexity will be deepen with more tertiary notes and we cannot wait to revisit this wine down the road again.

2021 was such an outlier from the previous seven vintages in the Rhône, which were all warmer and made fairly powerful wines. For the record, I love the ‘21’s as they remind me of the 2014 vintage which I found to be more Burgundian and showed more of the rotundone I adore in Syrah.

@Jay Kline Thank you for your note! We can see what you mean. It was elegant, refined, with classic spicier notes. We are fans! We’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for the 2014s, too. 👀 Cheers!

@Ira Schwartz, agreed. I do still have more 750s and magnums of this wine.

La Mouline Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2013

The best of the three Guigal wines at the moment. Juniper and bay leaf dominated the palate in this wine that seemed more integrated and developed than the other two. Went well with venison. — 17 days ago

La Landonne Côte-Rotie Syrah

This needs time. Has the highest potential from the three and is already smooth and rounded. Taste wise there are some bordeauxy flavours...just needs another 5-10 years — 17 days ago
