Very fine flavoured “Trappist”. Love it! — 2 months ago
I haven’t had a Napa Chardonnay in quite a while. This is very nice. Very fragrant, with ripe orchard fruit, a nice florals, very light touch of barrel aging toast, and an interesting wet clay minerality. Denser in the mouth than the nose led me to expect. Low-toned cracked dark stones, with the fruit taking a back seat. Quite full bodied, but there is nice, subtle acidity to lift it just enough. Seem to me the closest French analogy is a well-made Pouilly-Fuisse. Got this for under $25 at Costco. — 2 months ago
The label may say this wine is 11 years old but the vibrant ruby color and abundant fruit showcase a wine that feels younger. Blackberry, black cherry, cassis, plum, graphite, and wet stone are framed by firm oak notes - cedar, cinnamon, clove and silky tannins giving the wine a lovely texture. The bright acidity and well integrated alcohol (14.5% abv) give a nice foundation to slowly emerging tertiary notes of leather, forest floor, and mushroom. This has a great future ahead. — 2 months ago

A delicate whiff of dusty dried violets gives way to cedary spice and crushed plums as the 2020 Luce slowly opens in the glass. This is soothingly round and supple with cooling acidity and a tinge of minerality up front. Tart red berry fruits swirl across a stream of zesty acidity. The 2020 displays fantastic depth and concentration, tapering off long and gently tannic as black raspberries pucker the cheeks. This is a very approachable vintage of Luce, yet the balance is spot on. Nicely done. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2024)
