Los Arrotos del Pendón Prieto Picudo Rosado 2022

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2022 pours, a bright magenta color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of fresh strawberry, watermelon, kiwi, gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with low tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This is a deliciously quaffable Rosado and yet has enough complexity and “je ne sais quoi” to grab one’s attention. Drink now and over the next handful of years. Uncle Raúl is a master. — a day ago

'A Senda Vermella' Tinto Red Blend

Mineral red. Delicious. A Senda Vermella is Caiño and Mencía from several parcels in Rías Baixas. The vines range in age from 15-95 years and are planted on sandy and granitic soils. The grapes were harvested by hand, sorted, and foot-trod in plastic vats, with the Caiño and the Mencía separated. Native yeast fermentation began while the juice macerated with its skins for 21 days before pressing in a vertical press. Malolactic fermentation completed in used French oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks, where the wine rested until bottling. — 6 months ago

Medium bodied, a little pepper nose with some floral hints. Aeration and or allow the wine to open for a bit before enjoying. Went very nicely with meaty mushroom bolognese pasta. — 5 months ago

Vigna Martina Barbera d'Alba 2016

Popped and poured; consumed over a few hours. The 2016 Barbera "Vigna Martina" is deep, dark ruby with an almost impenetrable core. More than ample in the fruit department with all the dark berries. However, it's got enough of the non-fruits: the inorganic earth, purple flowers, some herbs and spices, to leave one in no doubt of its origin. This is certainly one of the more polished versions of Barbera. As for longevity, even at 6 years post vintage, this seemed fairly primary. That being said and based off my experiences with Barbera in this category, I expect the secondary characteristics of leather to begin emerging in the next couple of years. Tasty now and should continue to reward through 2030. — 9 months ago
