Valle de Guadalupe Petite Sirah 2022

Dark, glass-clinging purple with near black core. Inviting nose and full palate of natural blueberry jam (without canning sugar) and drying blackberries. Medium acidity and medium minus tannins lend support to an otherwise "chonky" mouthfeel. Finish is brief and a wee bit Louisville slugger. My first wine from Mexico (Guadeloupe Valley, Baja California) turns out to be a quite satisfying drink. Not a blockbuster by any means, but well within typical style for the variety from a warm climate. And a good value at twelve bucks. Drink within the year with meatloaf now or burgers from the grill next cookout. — 6 months ago

Casa Madero

3V Valle de Parras Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Casa Madero – V.3 Red Blend 2013
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo – Valle de Parras, Coahuila, Mexico 🇲🇽

Overview
Casa Madero holds a unique place in wine history as the oldest winery in the Americas, established in 1597. The V.3 is a flagship blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Tempranillo, showcasing the depth and elegance of Valle de Parras, one of Mexico’s most historic and promising wine regions.

Aromas & Flavors
Dark berries, plum, and cassis layered with notes of cedar, tobacco, and subtle spice. With age, tertiary notes of dried fig, cocoa, and leather add complexity.

Mouthfeel
Rounded and balanced, the 2013 vintage has matured beautifully. Polished tannins integrate seamlessly with a silky texture, giving both structure and finesse. The finish is long, smooth, and deeply satisfying.

Winemaking Notes
Aged in oak, this wine reflects both modern technique and centuries of winemaking heritage. Casa Madero’s use of high-altitude vineyards allows vibrant acidity to balance richness, a hallmark of its style.

Food Pairing
Ideal with grilled ribeye, lamb shanks, or mole negro. For a more traditional match, pair with carne asada or aged Mexican cheeses.

Verdict
A remarkable red blend that not only delivers balance and longevity but also carries the weight of history. The 2013 still shows vitality, proving how Mexican fine wines can age gracefully.

Personal Pick Highlight
Tasting Casa Madero feels like stepping into history — each glass connects back to 1597, when New World winemaking was just beginning. An unforgettable blend of heritage and pleasure. Cheers!

Reserva Privada Valle de Guadalupe Vino Tinto Nebbiolo 2016

This Mexican red wine certainly feels earthy and fruity like other Valle de Guadalupe wines I have had. This wine, though comes from the Italian grape Nebbiolo, doesn’t really have the sharpness (full tannins) most Italian wines have and most often need a food pairing. This wine because it’s light, smooth and almost Zin-like without being overly sweet. — 6 years ago

Canto de Luna

Valle de Guadalupe Tempranillo Blend 2022

Characteristic wine from Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico. Expressive dark fruits, spicy, earthy and a jammy edge. Pairs perfectly with the corn, beans and mole in Mexican dishes. No wonder why they call Mexican wines the next Tequila! Want to learn more about wines from Valle de Guadalupe? Casa Madero

Valle de Parras Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Casa Madero – Cabernet Sauvignon / 2021
Valle de Parras – Coahuila, Mexico 🇲🇽

Overview
Casa Madero, founded in 1597, is officially recognized as the oldest winery in the Americas. This bottling is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the high-altitude vineyards (about 1,500m/5,000 ft) of Valle de Parras in northern Mexico. The unique terroir offers warm days, cool nights, and excellent diurnal variation, giving structure and freshness to the fruit.

Aromas & Flavors
Vibrant red and black fruit lead the way, ripe cherries, cassis, and blackberry, layered with subtle notes of vanilla, baking spices, and a touch of green bell pepper that reflects the grape’s varietal character.

Mouthfeel
Medium to full-bodied with persistent tannins that are firm yet approachable. The structure carries the wine steadily, offering depth and a lingering, elegant finish without overbearing weight.

Food Pairings
Perfect with grilled ribeye steak, slow-cooked barbacoa tacos, or roasted lamb with rosemary. It also works beautifully with aged cheeses like Manchego or Cotija, highlighting the wine’s balance of fruit and tannin.

Verdict
A deliciously polished Cabernet from one of the New World’s oldest and most storied wineries. Casa Madero captures both history and modern winemaking finesse, resulting in a wine that’s as educational as it is enjoyable.

Did You Know?
Casa Madero was founded by decree of King Philip II of Spain, making it the first winery in the entire Americas. Their manuscripts, still kept in archives, are so central to their history that excerpts appear on the label itself.

Valle de Guadalupe Chenin Colombard 2022

Had the 2022 in January of 2024 with chicken tinga. What a nice little wine. Minerality and a touch of citrus with some floral on the nose. Hints of lime on the tongue and a hint of hibiscus on the nose. This was a lot like a New Zealand sauv blanc but with a softer punch. Enjoyed this and wondering about going through the hassle of obtaining this one again. Definitely would if it was easier to get. — 2 years ago
