Black molasses and treacle coil about sticky cherry reductions, curled claws of darkest chocolate and shadowy espresso. Warm smoke of charred barrel pops from the gooey depths of this imposing cauldron. Alas the treat! Dark, pure chocolate with a spike of candied cherry turns bitter and evasive as it storms headlong into the ashes of the night on a broomstick of gnarled oak imperial; fire spitting cinders in its billowing wake. Black arts at play!

As expected, a reddish hue to the amber, giving this an added warmth visually. Nice diversity of turtle back bubble clusters falling through the negative space of fine bubbled vines forming to leave a cantilevered lacing. The rye gives an earthy note to fig and malty caramel and mangrove honey, while blood orange and sweet lemon rise like a mirage. Great beer entry with a polished iron aspect cutting into the cooked ginger, wild rice and dark tea tastes and textures. A soft recollection of spun sugar heating. Soft and sweet, while bitter and deep. Session-able, with a pause for contemplative memory. .

Color of light red mixed with black tea and brown sugar. Dark yellow on the rim. A bit hazy. Nose of condensed dried cherry, black pepper, a bit balsamic vinegar, salty bacons, and some wet earthy note. Taste of nice black tea flavor, mix of cherry and strawberry note, intense oak and cedar wood, firm tannins, balsamic acid, tobacco leaf, and some spice note like clove. The taste is a mirage of different nice and saturated Barolo signatures and surpass the nose for sure. Aftertaste is lingering flavors of aforementioned flavors and still powerful tannins. Overall very good Barolo to enjoy now or shelf for several more years to come. — 9 years ago
