Storybook Mountain Vineyards

Mayacamas Range Napa Estate Zinfandel 2021

Night 2 notes. The oaky notes from being first opened on night one are gone. It’s a little softer, higher in acid, and less intense than other vintages I’ve had. Nose has bright, ripe red berries, some brambly notes, and irony earth. On the palate there’s nice intensity on entry, but it flattens out a bit in the finish. I’d say this is for earlier drinking than the typical Storybooks I’m used to. — 11 days ago

Interesting, I actually haven’t tried any Storybook Zins for, say, 15 years?

@Doug Powers - I have several of their various Zins in the cellar. They generally tend to be balanced, elegant, and age well. (Similar to Ridge in that respect.) I’ve never seen one that hit 15 ABV, which I interpret (and appreciate) as conscious restraint.

Piggott Range Vineyard Syrah 2005

Opened for my 80th birthday. Wow, at its peak, deep cherry colour, fresh, vibrant, complex with amazing depth and flavours, a long aftertaste. So tasty. — 8 months ago

Jen Pfeiffer Rock It Like A Redhead The Rebel North East Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Big, rich and bold. Lightly sweet up front and tart + spice on the back. A bit on the tart side of the spectrum for me. Tart fruits really pop! — 8 years ago

Kidnappers Vineyard Chardonnay 2022

From Hawke’s Bay! A gem of a north island region I taste so many winners from. The nose is reductive struck match with sea spray and lemon rind. The palate is enviably smooth and crisp as I wish my sheets to be. Oak lily’s with vanilla bean joining tart lemon curd and honeydew. The right balance between luxury china and clean white plates why am I referencing so many housewares in this review — 2 months ago

Totally love Gimblett Gravels Reds & this is one of them. Beautiful array of dark berry fruits, dark chocolate, a spec of bakery spices, a dash of savoury goodness and fresh silky tannins. — 7 years ago

Naked on Roller Skates Mataro Shiraz

This had some funk to it.. very anti-Aussie in its approach. Shiraz/Mataro blend with a zippy, fresh quality to it. Slightly chilled, this’d be good. — 8 years ago
