Bluet

Wild Blueberry Sparkling Wine

Think of this as a cider or maybe a spritzer, not a wine. Light and quite dry, with nice perfumed blueberry flavors. 6.8% abv. Good casual aperitif. From Scarborough, Maine. — 2 days ago

Aeris

Bianco Centennial Mountain Carricante 2017

Light straw in color. Citrus, apple, mineral, stone and saline. Lovely mouthfeel and a long finish. The only domestic plot of carricante. Drink it next to the Aeris Sicilian bottling of the same varietal for fun. Worth chasing down. Paired with @Valerie O'Shea paella. — 2 years ago

Maurice O'Shea Hunter Valley Shiraz 2005

Deep Ruby in colour. Strong earthy stony aromas with deep ripe plum plus red and black fruits. An example of a Hunter Valley wine trying to be like a South Australian Shiraz - too ripe and full bodied. “Clumsy” HH said when it was first released. Thankfully wine makers lately in the Hunter have returned to the old medium weight, savoury, “sweaty saddle “ style. Returning to this 2005, this is more full bodied and rich but the quality of the very old vines planted by Maurice O’Shea pulls it over the line as a high quality wine. The more recent vintages of Maurice O’Shea are of extreme quality (2014 - 99 points), back to what the Hunter does best, and will live for decades. — 3 months ago

Limited Release Lovedale Hunter Valley Sémillon 2007

A lot more character than the Elizabeths.
No much lanolin yet, but a searing minerality that I reckon is peculiar to the Lovedale vineyard. This should be the vineyard planted by Maurice O'Shea in his last few years of life. Again, though, my feelings are telling me that this wine won't get much better than this, which is not an issue, we just drink it. No stress.

Art Series Margaret River Chardonnay 2011

At an old friends place in Scarborough on Moreton Bay having a wonderful seafood meal. The nose is textbook Art Series with ripe grapefruit, citrus and pear Toasty notes. The palate shows that rich oak is resolving with the powerful fruit - profound intensity which is a great match with the mornay seafood. Great persistence and length in this 3rd of 6. Hope I have the patience to have just one each year until 2024. — 4 years ago

Shiraz

I’m drinking the Obsessive Shiraz. Great length, almost star anise with meatiness. Some fruit (red currants?) at the back of the nose, but the initial impression is all protein based. Middle weight pallet, some lovely silkiness and really great length... — 7 years ago
