Marine Sedimentary Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir 2018

Popped, double decanted without waiting. Nose is quite Cote de Beaune-ian. Pure, sappy, just-ripe cherry, significant earthy, stony minerality. In the mouth, it still seems relatively tight in its seventh year. Good intensity, but wound-up and sporting high acidity. Seems like it needs more time in bottle (or maybe another hour or two of air). I’m impressed with the seriousness of this one, though it’s not exactly hedonistic right now. Score could easily go up over time. — 16 days ago

Balcombe Block 1B Yamhill County Pinot Noir 2012

First red in our Thanksgiving dinner reds. Fruit profile still strong from my futures tasting 12 years ago. Lots of black fruit flavors, densely flavored. Best wine of the night — 4 months ago

Olenik Chehalem Mountain Pinot Noir 2012

Gift from a friend. Ruby red, very good clarity. Aromas of strawberries to the max on initial pour. Fresh wood shavings and licorice as well. Red fruit flavors with eucalyptus and cough syrup character. Fruit fades quickly with its age, but decent acid and mild skin astringency carry through in the aftertaste. Two hours later, plum, cherry skin and spice flavors dominate. Give it time to come together. — 4 months ago

Notorious Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2005

Unbelievable! Intense, great complexity and depth, with plenty of structure, it outshines excellent Grand Cru Burgundies and is a very special wine. — 5 months ago
