The Delicious Monster White Blend 2024

The Delicious Monster White Blend 2024
W.O. McGregor – South Africa 🇿🇦

Overview
A vibrant and cheerful South African white blend composed of 60% Chenin Blanc, 20% Muscat, and 20% Chardonnay. Produced in the McGregor region, this wine leans into youthful freshness, aromatic charm, and easy-drinking appeal without becoming overly sweet or simplistic. A surprisingly polished everyday white that overdelivers on pure drinkability.

Aromas & Flavors
Expressive notes of tropical fruit, ripe pear, melon, white peach, citrus blossom, and soft floral nuances jump from the glass. The Muscat adds aromatic lift and perfume, while the Chenin Blanc keeps the wine energetic and refreshing. Subtle orchard fruit and light honeyed tones round out the finish.

Mouthfeel
Light to medium-bodied with refreshing acidity and a smooth, uplifting texture. Crisp and youthful, yet balanced enough to maintain freshness through the finish. Very approachable and easy to enjoy casually.

Food Pairings
Excellent with spicy Asian dishes, summer salads, grilled chicken, shrimp tacos, light curries, fresh fruit platters, or casual patio-style sipping.

Verdict
A fun and approachable white blend that delivers far more charm and balance than expected. Bright, youthful, aromatic, and dangerously easy to drink. A great reminder that uncomplicated wines can still be genuinely enjoyable and well-crafted.

Did You Know?
South Africa is home to some of the world’s oldest Chenin Blanc vineyards, and the grape has become the country’s signature white variety, capable of styles ranging from crisp everyday wines to age-worthy masterpieces.

🍷 Personal Pick
This is the type of bottle you open casually and suddenly realize the bottle is almost gone. Bright energy, great finish, and incredibly approachable without feeling generic. Cheers!

La Grange aux Belles

La Grange aux Belles Fragile 2020

Out of any appellation but clearly recognisable as a chenin from Anjou.
Wild fermented, unfined and unfiltered
Scent of apple, grapefruit, flowers, almond, marzipan, middle eastern patisserie.
It just keep giving you more and more
It has a strong feeling of Amaretto..that my wife doesn't get. A bit of roasted macadamia.
Super easy drinking and long
I wouldn't mind to have a bottle of this always ready in my fridge.
So satisfying.

Vice Versa

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

This bottle of 2016 Vice Versa “Dr. Crane Vineyard” (BBS) was generously provided by a friend who selected it from his cellar to share over dinner at V. Mertz. This is the BBS (Best Barrel Select) of the Dr. Crane Vineyard which, I guess, is deemed the best tasting barrel by the winemaking team. Popped and poured. No formal notes but I can state with absolutely certainly that the juice is well and truly special. The wine is still quite youthful but already very easy to love. Beautifully layered dark fruits with tobacco, cocoa, stone-like minerals and deftly integrated baking spices. The structure is firm, leaving little doubt about the long life yet ahead. That being said, everything is so well balanced. I have a very strong feeling this will be one of those wines that never really shuts down. While they are two very different wines from different parts of the world, I found this to be a very handsome compliment to the 2015 “Tintot” we drank just before. This was also very nice with the lamb chops we had for dinner. Drink now or through 2036.

Almos Nagy-Somlói Juhfark 2018

Golden yellow hue
On nose spicy oak is evident, but not overpowering
Lemon, goose berry, wet stone like minerality. On palate oak gives peppery and creamy feeling. Again lemon, lime, white currant. Medium acidity, mid weight and clearly has stuffing for atleast few years of aging. When wine warms up the oak takes bit too large role. Best served around 10 degC when it's wonderfully fresh. Goes down dangerously easy and worked great with grilled jumbo shrimps

Gabriel Meffre

Saint-Francois Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend

Gabriel Meffre – “Saint-Nicolas” – Côtes du Rhône AOP – 2024 – Rhône Valley – France 🇫🇷

Overview
A classic Southern Rhône blend, typically led by Grenache with support from Syrah and Mourvèdre, crafted in a style that balances approachability with structure. This vintage leans toward immediate drinkability while still showcasing the character of the region.

Aromas & Flavors
Ripe red berries, plum, and black cherry lead the profile, followed by subtle notes of dried herbs, pepper, and a touch of earthy spice. A hint of juiciness keeps the fruit lively without feeling overly ripe.

Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with medium-plus tannins that provide gentle grip and structure. Balanced acidity and a smooth texture carry into a well-rounded, satisfying finish.

Food Pairings
Grilled meats, roasted chicken, lamb, herb-driven dishes, or casual fare like burgers and pizza. A versatile, food-friendly Rhône red.

Verdict
Casual yet not understated. This Côtes du Rhône delivers approachability with enough structure to keep things interesting, balanced, easygoing, and reliable.

Did You Know?
Côtes du Rhône wines can include up to 21 permitted grape varieties, but most reds are dominated by Grenache, giving them that signature fruit-forward yet subtly spiced profile.

🍷 Personal Pick
A dependable daily Rhône with just the right amount of grip, easy to enjoy, but not boring. Cheers!

Acidic but politely dry and balanced. Smooth with fruity spirit and a velvet finish. Easy to finish the next day when the wine mood has passed, and not heavy feeling. I had this with homemade vegetarian BBQ chicken pizza, and the pairing was perfect. Could easily suit many kinds of evenings. — 2 years ago

California Red Blend

A grab off Amazon fresh delivery ($12) that I’d def buy again for the price point and access . Fairly Bold ;(but not on the extreme) A notch on the tannic side of smooth but still easy to drink alone. All my fave hints: cherry, plum, berries& vanilla/ chocolate though has no noteworthy finish outside a sl dry palate feeling. — 4 years ago

Apollonis Cuvee Authentic Meunier Brut Champagne Blanc de Noir

Bright beige with full white mousse and fine persistent bubbles. Highly aromatic nose of red apple and strawberry. Baked apple, dark toast, and red berry on the razor-like palate. Lean for a Blanc de Noirs, but still substantial feeling in the mouth. Medium short dark finish. 100% Pinot Munier gives a nice change or pace from the norm. Very satisfying in all respects both with food and on its own. Support grower producers! This should make it easy. — 6 years ago

Vermentino di Sardegna 2024

Dolia – Vermentino di Sardegna – 2024
Sardegna DOC – Italy 🇮🇹

Overview
A very casual and easygoing Vermentino designed for pure drinkability. Light, fresh, and uncomplicated, yet still delivering enough coastal character to keep it interesting.

Aromas & Flavors
Citrus, green apple, and light pear notes lead the profile, with a subtle saline touch that hints at its Mediterranean origin. Clean and straightforward.

Mouthfeel
Light-bodied with refreshing acidity and a smooth, easy finish. A touch of salinity adds dimension, keeping it from feeling too simple.

Food Pairings
Light salads, seafood, simple appetizers, or enjoyed on its own. Perfect for warm weather and casual settings.

Verdict
A classic patio pounder that delivers on freshness and ease. Not complex, but well-made for its purpose, an effortless, reliable sipper.

Did You Know?
Vermentino from Sardegna often shows more pronounced salinity compared to mainland expressions, thanks to constant maritime influence from the surrounding Mediterranean Sea.

🍷 Personal Pick
A go-to casual white for relaxed moments—easy, refreshing, and exactly what you want when you’re not looking to overthink wine. Cheers!

Domaine Armand Rousseau

Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Domaine Armand Rousseau Père & Fils Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2012

For my first time tasting Domaine Armand Rousseau Père & Fils Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, the sommelier said that if Chambertin is the King, then this wine, Clos de Bèze, is the Queen. The 2012 vintage is relatively easy to approach and didn't require a very long decanting time—two hours was sufficient.

The 2012 growing season was quite challenging, with a severe cold spring, but the summer was warm and hot. As a result, the fruit profile of this wine is quite expressive.

For the first hour, the reduction notes were very strong. It only started to open up in the second hour. The aroma is quite elegant. Since we were dining at a restaurant, the sommelier was very meticulous in controlling the temperature of the glassware, adjusting the wine's condition to a optimal state.

I didn't get very exuberant fruit notes. The overall state of the wine was restrained and elegant—like a lady around 30 years old. Not only is her beauty present, but there's also a feeling of poise and steadiness. Everything was in balance: the aromas, flavours, and acidity.

Notes of cherry, blackberry, liquorice sweetness, a hint of mint, and some dried flowers. There was a slightly creamy texture on the palate. The body was rounded but not quite what I would call voluptuous.

I didn't find any particularly stunning or breathtaking flavours or aromas. I can only say that this wine's performance was... correct. I had originally hoped for more complex layers, but unfortunately, I felt its expression was relatively simple, not very complex. It was just quite elegant and graceful.

This wine is exceedingly expensive. For a similar quality presentation, I believe there are other options at perhaps half the price that could deliver a comparable experience.

Marietta Cellars

OVR Old Vine Red Lot Number 73 California Red Blend

Color of deep purple, quite inky. Nose of ripe dark fruits like blackberries and cherry, some vanilla, some medicinal strawberry syrup, a bit mineral, a bit minty and grassy. Nose is average. Taste follows the nose with milky vanilla, a bit bittersweet and marginal tannins. 2nd sip shows some fruity notes, and strawberry stands out with some sweetness. Aftertaste shows some more bitterness and milky chocolate. Good milky feeling on the mouth, some more minty flavor, and easy to drink — 3 years ago

nebbiolo is obviously a rarity in israel wine, but here it is, made in a different than usual way.

wild fermentation. no s02.

we love easy going pet nats at home.

after being opened the bubbles slowly climbed out of the bottle. pouring it it screamed 'I'm alive! so alive! feels good to be alive, ain't it?'

medium + acidity
medium - body.

light and not too complex. grapey with some pomegranate and raspberry hints. and a creamy feeling reminding me forest fruit pie.

paired lovely with a vibrant salad of cauliflower, apricot, hazelnut, spring onions, cilantro, nana(local mint), grana padano cheese and lemon 🍯olive oil sauce. and also great olive bread and seitan 'shawarma' and tahini.

i said i need more nebbiolo in my life, a few more like this is great but only as addition to some barolo, barbaresco and langhe nebbiolo.

L'Astore Masseria

Jema Salento Primitivo 2016

Blackberry jam, a bit of pencil lead, caramel, almond milk, a menthol thing too. Very inviting. The palate is very well balanced and shows a big bright fruit upfront and a nice, tender texture with a soft touch on the sides. It's very round. You can feel the acid backbone lurking underneath but you make it more than feeling it. Some tannins spice things up in the rear and lay a spicy layer in in the rear. A very long fruity finish with blackberry and other red berries finishes up this very good wine. It packs quite a punch but it's very easy going at the same time. A good testimony of its varietal. — 6 years ago
