Napa Valley Chardonnay 2019

I'm not typically a big fan of Chardonnay, but this one was delicious. Crisp, fresh, and clean, though the flavors took a while to open up. A couple hours after opening, I tasted some nice yellow apples and ripe pears with just a touch of oak. 100% Chardonnay. 1/30/22. — 5 years ago

Narrow and uninspired. A bit syrupy. Not a fan of this vintage. — 6 years ago

I don't drink Caymus that often, but from what I read its style has changed dramatically over the recent years.

Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Stag’s leap Artemis - first smell - manure. Soil. - a little fruitier than the silver oak. It’s smoother than the silver oak but typically I am just not a huge fan of stags. But when coming back to it. It’s much better than the silver oak. Ahhhhhhh. This is actually my favorite now. 9.1+ — 7 years ago

Napa Valley Zinfandel 2014

For someone who has constantly said ‘I’m not a Zinfandel fan’ I like it. Well balanced in the middle, pleasant finish, not too much acidity. — 8 years ago

Caravina Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Beautiful, dark red, perfume fruits. Black currants, blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, boysenberries, lots of blue fruits, expresso, anise, leather, some graphite, sweet dark moist soils, medium intensity volcanic minerals, limestone with blue and dark red floral bouquet.

The body is full. The tannins are round and nicely soften. The structure, length, tension and balance have hit harmony with plenty of life left ahead. Dark currants, blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, boysenberries, loads of blue fruits, expresso roast, anise, dark chocolate, a little caramel, leather, some graphite, leather, dry tobacco, touch of dry herbs, sweet dark moist soils, medium intensity volcanic minerals, limestone and blue and dark red floral bouquet. The acidity is round and beautiful. The finish is long, very well balanced, elegant, polished and lasts minutes.

Photos of; The barn used for winemaking and to host tastings. The first harvested Cabernet grapes of the season, an old school basket press that decorates their grounds, Estate vines and a giant fan to dry the vines if needed amongst the hilltop mountains that surround the Estate.

Saint Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Not normally a red blend fan - but this is a exceptional as it’s smooth, satisfying and rich. Finishes well: Well balanced and completely structured as a great glass all around from initial nose to last finish on the palette! — 2 years ago

HL Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

1.5 hour decant (little cloudy sediment). A beautiful deep purplish magenta color. On the nose: Blueberry, red berry, vanilla mocha, herbs and spice. Taste: WOW...we are on a roll with our 2021 wines so far!!! smooth, rich, silky, mouth coating wine with black plum, cedar, currants, graphite, spice and a nice long dry finish with slight tannic punch. A bigger wine than usual from HL, and a winner that will drink well for years.....if you are a HL fan, hope you got some! — 6 years ago

Columbia Valley Chardonnay

I have never been a huge fan of Chardonnay until I was served a glass of this wine. Even though barrel fermented, it doesn’t have a buttery taste, but rather a more citrus finish, which I like. I will enjoy this wine all year long. — 7 years ago

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2010

Always a huge fan of this producer. This was the cleanest bottle I’ve smelled straight from opening. Went from cherries to blackberries over the course of the evening. I decanted it for probably 2 hours and then it sat in the bottle for awhile as we drank the whites. Ended up having it with and after dessert. The wine is in a great place right now. It’s very pure. — 7 years ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

I truly am not a silver oak Fan but their old stuff has some Kung pow to it. It actually evolved after being opened in the glass for an hour. I prefer it to a new vintage hands down, no questions asked. This actually surprised me and is definitely the WOTN between these two. Truly, truly surprised me. Can’t go wrong for this price point! I found this one for sale for 80 bucks. Winner, winner chicken dinner in my book! — 8 years ago

Awesome. Totally agree @Martin G Rivard the old stuff was blue chip. Lost their way over time. 1999 is my favorite 90s vintage. Still have a bunch in the cellar.

Belle Glos

Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010

2010. Pretty much the opposite of a Burgundian Pinot Noir. Pulled out to have while the coq au vin that was marinating the last few days was cooking. Big sweet black cherry flavors, but not out of balance and was enjoyable to drink. I’ve never been a fan of waxed bottlenecks, but the “zipper” around the top made easy access to the cork which was soft, pliable and came out intact. Paired well with the stew. — 3 years ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2006

A nice Lynch Bages. Always a fan of this producer. Nice dark earth, tobacco, and saline quality throughout. Excellent lifted finish with good acid. Could use a smidge more fruit - I think the vintage. But still delicious and typical. — 7 years ago

Winemaker's Blend California Zinfandel Blend 2016

I enjoy this red blend more than most and will continue to have a bottle on hand as it makes me happy. Not good enough? See other, longer, reviews if you want adjectives. Alternatively, buy a bottle and try it for yourself and share with a friend at a party. It’s a fan favorite for-a-reason. And that reason doesn’t have the word “berry” or “legs” or “mocha” — 8 years ago
