Vincent Dauvissat

La Forest Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2020

I’ve said it before…for Dauvissat, I consistently find Forest to drink pretty much just as well as the Grand Crus, especially after proper aeration. 2020 is a fabulous rendition, open and giving and adding serious weight with some time in the decanter. Pure, textured and expansive with electric acids and layered Chablisen minerality. As it is often with these wines, last glass was the best. — 10 days ago

Bishop's Peak

Talley Vineyards Pinot Noir 2022

OH SO good. And for a very reasonable price in the 20’s. A spicy rendition, showing clove, white pepper and black tea on the nose (on top of to-be-expected-but-not-unwanted) of ripe red cherry. The palate brings in more green notes, contrasting the ripe fruit and fruitcake spices, but the acid is vibrant, and the tannins are scarcely there—this is a smooth, smooth glass of goodness. — a year ago

Ulysse Collin

Extra Brut Le Jardin d'Ulysse Pinot Noir Blend

The second edition of Jardin d'Ulysse, based on the 2016 vintage and aged 60 months on the lees has turned out brilliantly, already showing even better than the last time I had it. A taut, racy rendition with a stunningly silky texture while simultaneously rich with just the slightest oxidative complexity that’s beginning to build and only adding to its attraction. Its floral, spice and citrus inflicted aromatics are layered between its chalky mineral core and the palate is chiseled, full bodied, satiny and ultra concentrated, with a structure built to age. This second release is already incredible and is only going to get better. Love these wines 🙌🏻 — 3 years ago

Domaine des Bosquets

Le Lieu Dit... Gigondas Grenache 2019

This needs a lengthy decant. Wonderfully spicy and herbal rendition of (100%) Grenache. There is a generous dose of sweet red fruit, yet it never gets alcoholic, flabby nor tiresome. Great Grenache.

Excellent Gigondas producer.

Bandini Villa Pomona

Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese 2020

A unique style of CC with minerality leading throughout. There’s pure, intense cherry fruit on the nose, but it takes a back seat to the quarry activity. Same thing goes for the palate. Very intense minerality. Structurally there is quite a bit of soft, chalky tannin and decent acids. The finish ends minerally and with a slight bitter note. Very good, but not the most elegant rendition. Maybe give it a year or two more to come together. — 2 years ago

Taittinger

Comtes de Champagne Grand Crus Brut Blanc de Blancs 2006

Apples, citrus, brioche. Not as well-rounded as the 2008 but a very nice rendition of the Comtes. Aging very gracefully with at least 1-2 decades to go. — 3 years ago

Écluse

Rendition Red Rhone Blend 2022

Not a fruity nose, woody. Pronounced spice, dark fruit and lots of flavors but not as balanced as we're accustomed to from this winery. — 10 months ago

Château Mayne Lalande

Listrac-Médoc Cabernet Franc Blend 1999

Well, what an overachiever this wine is! Mayne Lalande, a little known chateau in Listrac-Médoc, and a bottle which I picked up for a humble price at auction around a year ago. It’s fresh, sappy, delicious and positively refreshing at 12% abv. I wish I had more of this. A joyous rendition of old left-bank Bordeaux. — a year ago

Dry River

Lovat Vineyard Syrah 2013

An excellent rendition of a northern Rhone Syrah from Martinborough New Zealand. My last bottle. Notes of white pepper, spice and dried meat. Very good. — 3 years ago

Wittmann

Kirchspiel Großes Gewächs Riesling 2019

Pop and pour. Fascinating. Entirely unlike any rendition of Kirchspiel from this producer that I have ever tasted. On the nose: peach, ripe guava, and a strong coffee/toast note, vaguely reminiscent of von Winning's Pechstein. On the palate more as expected: lovely acidity, amazing density, light lemon cotton candy, followed by dense lemon oil and lime. Lovely contrast, and an elegant tangy finish. Yum! — 3 years ago
