Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

Unique profile on this Santa Cruz Chard. Opens to nutty and nuance and settles to citrus and refreshing. — 15 days ago

Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Merlot 2017

Nice Merlot with some ribeyes on the grill. Oak still not fully integrated and there is more of an opulent glycerine quality than I expected for a ridge. But still nice. — a month ago

Bonkers. Loads of primary fruit. Seems like it was bottled yesterday. Explosive and just kind of mind altering. Hard to believe how this showed with such age. — 3 months ago

Vigneto Monte Lodoletta Valpolicella Superiore Corvina Blend 2010

Very dense and black in colour. These wines always remind me of Fruit and Nut milk chocolate. The colour makes you think full bodied but it’s actually light to medium bodied. A luscious mouth filling palate with the savoury milk chocolate together with notes of raisin and date. Supple yet persistent tannins. Reminiscent of a Priorat Garnacha in some respects. — 20 days ago

Colli di Lapio Fiano di Avellino

Beautifully aged in 2024 but still retaining its vibrancy minerality with melding of stone fruit citrus almond burnished with hint of smoke and sea flavors with great complexity and long finish it went well with lemon garlic, barbecued shrimp, grilled squash, and corn on the cob — 3 months ago

Monte Bello Vineyard Chardonnay

Delightfully complicated California Chard masquerading as a White Burgundy. French nose and French finish. Minerals, flint, stone and fruit—apple, pear, peach and nectarine, with an obvious but restrained layer of oak. Not overly fruity or oaky; no pineapple or butterscotch here. Paired well with the Seafood Tower, Swordfish and Black Cod at the Water Grill Santa Monica. This was a juvenile 2021 vintage, tasted in 2024. Eager to try this gem after another half decade. — 4 months ago

Yes, this is liquid luxury, on a pnp, young, and off vintage (fires). Can’t wait to try one with some years on it. — 15 days ago

Right. Should have wrote “fires vintage.” I was explained the blind block selection process, and truly impressed.

Monte Bello Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1990

A very reliable producer. Plenty left under the hood. Half bottle delight. Tons of sediment and the cork was intact but crumbled upon opening. Stewed for an hour and then began to be ready. Rounded succulent mature fruit a bit smoky and great balance/mouthfeel. — 2 months ago

Promising red fruit on the nose but a bit too tannic—decanting was de rigueur. After 45 minutes it was better but still tight. It took a full two hours to open up fully and show interesting notes of tobacco, earth and pencil shavings to balance the fruit and acid. Tells me that I should wait another five years before opening my remaining bottles. Enjoyed the 2021 vintage with prime ribeye cap steak from Costco, chicken liver pate and Taleggio cheese, with visiting family (William, Teresa, Xander and Samantha). — 4 months ago
