In the heart of the Chianti lies Estate of Sette Ponti, 15 miles northwest of the city of Arezzo, past village of San Giustino Valdarno. Has 10% Merlot, aged in French Allier barriques, deep Ruby with red fruit aromas and floral notes. On the palate blackberry, plum and cherry flavors with blossom notes, spice and fine integrated tannins. Good balance, long finish ending with some oak and mineral tones. Nice! Will age a bit! New vintage, yummy blackberries and, er, tobacco. Becoming a favorite. After 30 minutes, a healthy dose of fine-grained skin astringency emerges. Tangy or slightly tart on finish, with plenty of mouth-coating skin tannins. Worth decanting a couple of hours — 6 months ago

Excellent clarity, moderate pigment extraction, ruby red with purple tinge. Raspberry and white pepper aromas, raspberry, white pepper and black tea flavors, as promised on back label. Lots of loose seedy tannins on finish with a kids’ grape fruit juice aftertaste. Needs time to open. After an hour, tart, moderate astringency. After three hours, the raspberry and white pepper flavors were fully resolved, but the skin tannins were still largely expressive with all their astringency. Decant even longer! — 19 days ago
