Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2002

My last bottle of 2002 Bin 28 Kalimna. More notes to come. First vintage of Bin 28 was 1959. Very much the Penfolds house style. Herbs, dark plums and Choc/mocha aromatics with red and black fruits. Certainly the Penfolds DNA. On the 2nd night initially a whiff of coconut oak. A reliable mid tier well priced Penfolds red which can be drunk young or cellared for many years. Has been a regular purchase for me over the years. — 12 days ago

@Bob McDonald, very, very jealous, I always love this wine, but haven’t never aged them this long (8-12 years is longest for me)!!

@Doug Powers 2002 was a cool excellent vintage. The Rewards of Patience have this wine cellaring to 2040. Luckily I have a few Bin 389s from 2002 still in the cellar. Just as long lived as the Bin 28.

May Rock Sierra Foothills Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Sierra Foothills in California.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Showing black fruits with cedar, vanilla, leather, earth, black licorice, chocolates, tobacco, spices and peppercorn.

Spicy and rich, yet elegant. Fruit forward and delicious.

Showing great complexity already, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

Feels like a Napa Cabernet with a touch of Bordeaux.

Showing lots of black licorice notes on the palate, which I loved, not much on the nose though.

Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years. A good quality wine.

Good right out of the bottle and better after an hour of airtime.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (50% new) American oak barrels for 19 months. A tiny production of only 4 barrels. Unfiltered.

15.3% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Deep Ruby color with aromas of dark berry fruits and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and cherry with cacao, espresso and vanilla oak. Vivid acidity, ripe fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit and spice, very nice! Good value with aging potential. — 4 months ago

Pommery

Cuvée Louise Brut Champagne Blend 1988

Opened August 28 2021 on our 35th anniversary. We had brought this bottle back from champagne in the 1990s and kept in the cellar. Magnum was in perfect condition and distinguished pop with golden color and fine hue and brut taste —a couple years less than our wedding but still going strong. — 5 years ago
