The 2013 IX Estate is a wild, exotic wine. In a sense, it marries the savory aromatic intensity of the Tychson Hill with the fruit richness found in the Cariad. It is another wine that has aged impeccably. There's plenty of mountain tannin and savoriness, along with the underlying structure to age well for many years to come. In a word: magnificent! Ruby in color with a wide reddish/brick rim.
Pretty nose of black currants, black cherries, raspberries, spices, light earth, light oak, wild flowers, tobacco leaf and black pepper.
Medium bodied and elegant with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with cherries, sweet raspberries, earth, light oak, spices, tobacco leaf, dark chocolates and black pepper.
Long finish with very little tannins and sour cranberries.
This 12 year old Pinot Noir from Napa Valley is delicious now. Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel.
Actually, it feels more like a Burgundy Pinot Noir. Interesting stuff.
Easy drinking and good right out of the bottle. Nicely balanced and good by itself.
This Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is peaking now. A great sipping wine.

Every so often you encounter a wine from a familiar grape or from a familiar AVA that defies categorization. This is one of those wines. Mint, allspice, cinnamon, and wild blackberries on the nose—with just a hint of upland pine forests. The blackberry fruit I taste on the front of the tongue immediately transitions into a conveyor belt of sensations. Its medium-bodied tannic structure delivers high notes of vanilla and low notes of dark chocolate, and it finishes with the softness of milk chocolate—which would potentially be cloying, except it’s offset by some herbal high notes (maybe cumin?). This is a fabulously sophisticated wine. The mouthfeel reminds me of a Médoc from a good vintage year, but it’s sensorium is like no other Cab I’ve had. Really really lovely and unique! I was a fool not to buy a case of this
